Democrats in Congress fighting with Obama already

Well they may have looked united at his speech a few days ago. But it looks like the honeymoon is over for even their party unity. Sen. Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.) accused Obama of trying to steal power from Congress by appointing White House “czars” to handle issues that would otherwise be handled by departments subject to congressional oversight. Pelosi made it clear that she wasn’t happy with Obama’s plan to leave 50,000 U.S. troops in Iraq and that she “absolutely” favors prosecuting any Bush administration officials involved in torture or other excesses in the fight on terror. Pelosi also said she’d move “faster” than Obama is to roll back Bush-era tax cuts.Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman Charles Schumer joined Pelosi’s critique of Obama’s plan to leave troops in Iraq. Pelosi even told Rahm Emanuel to butt out of House Democratic affairs. Reid and Pelosi both are urging Obama not to push too hard to eliminate congressional earmarks. Democratic Rep. Gene Taylor of Mississippi took a shot at Obama’s budget, saying “change is not running up even bigger deficits that George Bush did.” Well it looks like Obama is taking a lot of heat and criticism from his own party. What will this mean for the party? Will it cause larger issues as Pelosi and Obama fight for who is really in charge? Tell me what you think about all the flack Obama seems to getting from his own party.

As I stated in an earlier post, I feel the left will be President Obama's undoing. He is not acting as fast and as far as they want. I don't think Speaker Pelosi would mind getting rid of President Obama. Remember she is third in line for the presidency. If VP Bidden moves up to the Presidency I would see him being pressured into taking her on as VP. The other scenario is to remove both of them from office like they talked about doing with Bush and Chenny. IF speaker Pelosi thinks she could be president she would take the shot and do everything she could do to get it.

I think she likes it in congress. That is where the real power is...not in being president. But plans to rule them all. It will be interesting to see who wins...pelosi or him.

I think some people forget how the checks and balances in our government are supposed to work. For 8 years we had a Republican in the White House and for most of that time we had a Republican controlled Congress. During that time the GOP Congress basically rubber-stamped everything Bush wanted to do. I think it's good that we're hearing voices of dissent even from within the President's own party. On some things I'm agreement with the President and on others I agree with what the various members of congress and the Senate say that may not be in total agreement with the Administration but this is the way it's supposed to be. I think the Democratic party will survive. Annie

I agree. I have yet to meet a politican I completely agreed with. But in the case of Pelosi and Obama I think things are going to get interesting.

I don't think it's possible for any president to please everybody in his own party all of the time. I don't expect there to be any lasting friction between Nancy Pelosi and Obama but if there is that could be a problem. I would definitely take the rest of them with a grain of salt. Especially Robert Byrd. Isn't he the one who was once a clan member?

I am not sure about Bryd. BUt I do think things with Pelosi may get worse. Both are stuborn and both think they are in charge. And sence Obama just signed the spending bill ear marks and all (breaking a campaign promise I might add) I think Pelosi is winning.

Pelosi need to be out of her position - she may well be the engineer of Obamas downfall - but at the same time I hope she takes her own fall. Byrd is far too old to even be in the Senate - he needs to retire but then we would probably have a Senator elected by illegal ACORN voters. They can't accept that they not Bush got us into he mess we are in and the stimulus plan is just going to put a lot of money into the wrong pockets. It is going to be a zoo in Washington and we are going to be the ones paying for this stupidity

Well Bush was unpopular so they used him as a scapegoat. It is our fault (the general public) for falling for it.

Well, you know, Pelosi thinks she is in charge of the country and the President is mere decoration, lol. It was only a matter of time. Especially with Ted Kennedy pretty much out of the picture... well, his protege has to fight for himself now. They all have their own ambitions and this little power struggle, which most likely will increase, very well illustrates where the decisions are really made... not in the White House! Maybe those who condemn Bush for anything and everything will finally figure out that the Democrats have been in charge of running the country in the last two years. And yes, nothing much has changed.

Yep the dems were in charge of congress for the last two years and helped to cause this mess and they are now set on spending us all to the poor house.

Wow - I haven't heard any of this - it's news to me. Thank goodness I'm online or else I'd never hear anything of substance. I think this is dangerous for the party to be fighting so much with the President so soon. But on the other hand if his own party members aren't supportive, maybe they'll be forced to tell the truth about the birth certificate... Maybe this is one nail in the coffin with regards to his popularity? What do you think?

I think you will see a bigger power struggle. Pelosi won't out him over his birth certificate (if there is anything to out him about) because she may be argueing with him but the last thing she wants is for him to be removed. That may put another republican in the office and that is the last thing she wants.
