In these times when funds are so hard to come by would you use your companies resource to do something extra on the side .I am talking in instances where you may have access to like use the companies internet ,paper or some other facility to do some work on the outside and collect an extra income . Would you do it or would you take the moral high ground and decline . And I am talking in instances where you know you are grossly underpaid and your boss has a entertainment package that could pay your departments salary as well as maintenance Come on tell me the truth now wouldn’t you do some extra work on the side ,after all you are basically collecting back from them what they should have paid you in the first place

i would like to think i wouldn't. if my kids were still small & they were hungry that would be the only way i'd do something like that.

No, I wouldn't use their supplies for my own purposes. I go to work to do my job there, I come home to do my work here. I think that if I even thought about it, my conscious would get the better of me.

I wouldn't use any company resource to do an outside job. I'd get caught! I'd be the one in trouble and wouldn't want to run the risk of being fired from my primary job. I might use some of the company's ideas but not their resources such as internet or paper even if I was underpaid. My theory is this: I'd be thankful that I had a job and wouldn't take advantage of using or borrowing resources to make a few extra dollars. I'd probably search for a second job if there was a money shortage.

I guess its wrong. Then again people tend to do things depending on the kind of company they are working. All said and done, its cheating.

I think everyone has done this at one time or another. Even if it is not outside work it could be just personal day to day stuff that you would do on your companies time. It maybe wrong to do it but sometimes it is hard not to do it.

you are right about us using company resources to do our personal business but I was really talking consistently and earning an additional income from it at the expense of the company .Like you said it may be wrong but it is so hard to avoid doing it especially if you are underpaid

Unfortunately no. While they may be taking me for a ride, if they were to catch me they'd fire me in a second. Hypothetically. People who are riding the company are notorious for resenting anyone else doing it, they might not get as much. And they do not share.

ofcourse I will... i mean it is nothing to with recession or something, not in mah case atleast.... why do I need to think that way after all... I am working in a company and m productive for them.... no doubt even they r paying me for the same... but when I have an easy access to internet out there, what is wrong in using it for another purpose... I am sorry if I am offending you people, but I dont see anything wrong or low at moral in doing this, coz i feel i m not stealing things from there....and such small things that I might use may not be actually counting big for the company... coz I m not, sort of, putting any additional burden on them... what all m I doing is using the logistics provided to me..... doesnt that sound fine?

Hi ronnyb! I haven't tried it because I don't work outside my home. I would like to think that I won't but something is telling me right now that I can never be sure of what I may do or not do when I will be in that kind of situation. Very tempting but I would really like to think that I won't. But who knows? I might! LOL.. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

i think we all do it, i'm sitting at my desk with nothing to do so i'm on mylot, it happens a lot. when i took this job, they told me i'd have a lot of downtime and to be able to do other things is great.

These are fringe benefits which you should not view too seriously. They are too minor things to be taken note of too seriously. A few minutes of internet or a few letters photostatted or printed in the office do not constitute stealing of office resources.

It is called stealing. You can ask your employer if they mind, they might be glad to get the extra income as you would rent the equipment.Other than that I would not recommend it as a job is a valuable thing to have in certain parts,if you put that at risk you stand to lose everything and with the word theif on your cv you would never find employment. It may seem tempting but not worth the risk.x

yes, but not overly do. resources are also part of our personal experience. For example , if i jump to another company in the same field, and i need to get my work started, surely one will first contact his old clients. If the new offer is better than the old one gained in previous company, the clients follow. Also, accepting some outside work helps to establish one's own network for later use or for current need.

Ofcourse I do lol. I used to do it even before the economy went bad haha. I use the internet always and it is not necessarily for the money but also other reasons , one of them being, because I can. I make sure I complete my work and my work majorly involves using a computer and I also tend to multitask when the quality of my work is not at stake. Then there are other instances where I have contacted my clients for other businesses too. I would do nothing unethical or dishonest and make sure that organisation comes first and when I have the time I do other work which doesn't compromise my work towards my company.
