My Dad and i went to the market earlier today and was shocked at the rates they were selling vegetables. I mean, 1kg tomato was just Rs.5! It's hard to imagine what the farmers are getting... maybe Rs 1.5 per kg! Is nobody buying vegetables these days?

Is that cheap or not? I don't have any idea about regular vegetable prices in your area but I definitely understand what you are trying to say. Here in the Philippines, vegetable prices usually go down during summer which starts now until May. That is because there are lots of supplies from the agricultural provinces. The consumers are relieved for being able to have more for lesser amount but the farmers will be burdened on the other hand. It's good if they were able to have lots of produce but it is not always the case so they ended up gaining not enough compensation from their heavy work in the fields. No wonder, many farmers don't encouraged their children to be like them.

It's real cheap. It's usually Rs 25 per KG. It's true. Agriculture is not a profitable venture at all in today's world. Before, with huge lands, over 75% of my country was employed in some way in the land for agriculture. But today, it has reduced to 20% and threatens to fall... With more people turning away from agriculture as they are not able to profit from it, i'm seriously worried about the future... Thanks for your response. Happy mylotting.

They are very necessary for good health so we are stuck. Can't be healthy without them. So I try to buy the ones that are on special. In the summer I buy them at the farmer's market to get the best prices. Need my veggies!

Thanks for replying. I never heard of the farmer's markets. They never sell it to people directly, but through merchants where i live. I agree, we need them for our health. Happy mylotting.

I still buy fresh fruits and vegetables for my family. Mostly I buy broccoli, mushrooms, onions, and potatoes. I do buy my daughter grape tomatoes about once a week. They are $3 USD for about 8 ounces of them. My kids love fresh fruit, so I make sure we always have some of that in the house too. Bananas, apples, oranges, pears...
