I just saw your discussion, the search seems to be broken! I put 'sweetened or unsweetened tea' into the search and it returned NO discussions. Then after I posted one, I saw yours. I'm sorry.

I live in Florida where there is tea and sweet tea. You have to specify unsweetened tea because everyone...at least everyone that I know...drinks sweet tea. I like a lot of sugar in my tea so the iced tea they make down here suits me just fine. My best friend, on the other hand, thought it was way too sweet when she came to visit. She's weird..

I love sweetened ice cold tea. I love drinking a glass of it on a hot summer day. It's so refreshing and it just tastes so good. I don't like it overly sweetened though. I've had some sweet tea that tastes really gross because it has so much sugar in it. I don't want it so sweet that all I taste is sugar. I want to taste the tea too!

They do that because some people have diabetes and their systems can't process the sugar properly. Not only that, but not every one likes the same amount of sugar. So that way you get the taste you want.

hi there, yes i think your right many people here in the U.S. have diabetes so thats why they make it that way where you can put how much sugar on your ice tea, its just a good thing that they have sugar on the table in case you want sweet cold ice tea. thanks for the response, happy posting!!!

I like sweet ice tea. Somehow, unsweetened ice tea doesn't taste right to me. ._. On the other hand, I like sweet things more than any other type of food, so I'm not surprised that I like sweet iced tea better. I also like flavoring put in my ice tea. Flavoring helps it taste better in my view. Usually, I have some sort of food accompanying with the ice tea, but if I don't, eventually, I'll get sick of it. ._.

Some restaurants in the U.S. do serve sweet tea, mostly in the southern states.

Hi itsme_cha - There are restaurants that put sugar in their iced tea, just not all. Some choose to serve only unsweet so their patrons can sweeten their tea with sugar or sugar substitutes if they'd like to. Personally, I like mine sweet. I can't stand unsweet tea. YUCK! Jill

I like my tea a little bit sweet and just like you i also miss the taste of ice tea that i used to have in the philippines. I also felt weird when i had my first taste of tea here in the states, i guess we had the same thought! It was tasteless but i understand that many americans have diabetes problems.

I like my tea to be sweet. Depending on where you go in the states, on how sweet your tea will be, and what flavors. Here where I live, South Carolina... it's sweet. But where I grew up, in Missouri, they add a little sugar but not really much to taste it. We went to Key West, Florida for vacation one year and we were craving some sweet tea, and us thinking ok we are in the south it should be ok... Wrong, every place we went it was Raspberry Flavored. Nasty tasting as heck. We soon learned, don't order the tea. My husband ia a mega tea drinker, and I make a gallon daily for him.

I like both, it just depends upon my mood. But right now I live in the southern US and the culture here is definitely sweet ice tea. It is funny because depending where you are you can get very sweet or mildly sweet tea served to you. I go in stages. Sometimes I really like the sweet tea, but other times I prefer the taste of the tea itself.

Well, I would prefer my tea with sugar. It is hard for me to take in ice tea without sugar since I find the taste a little bitter. I know that taking much sugar is not good since it might create problems later on, so I don't put in much. So usually when I order ice tea, I always tell the waiter to lessen on the sugar. But most of those that serve ice tea, have it prepared with sugar already so there is nothing much I can do.
