I am interested to know from mylottians about how are marriages arranged in your place? In my place (a corner of India), most of the marriages (90%) are happening like this. For that a correct example is my marriage. So, I will tell about my marriage. When I was around 27-28, my parents and elder sister started to tell me about marriage. When I gave the permission, my parents arranged a broker to get some suitable alliance for me. Since I was staying around 600 KM away from home, my parents used to go for seeing the girls first, which are arranged by abovesaid broker(s). When my parents were satisfied, I go to my native place and saw these girls. I had seen around 10-12 girls like that. Then at last I found my better half, who had been first seen my parents and then me. I liked her and informed the matter to girl's house at the time of first visit to her house. Then from girl's house some 5-6 people came to see my house and sorroundings. When they also liked the marriage has been fixed. The fun is, the girl, who has to live her full life in boy's house never seen boy's house upto marriage. After marriage only she sees her husband's house. This is how marriages are arranged in our place. Now-a-days little change is there like, instead of brokers there are marriage bureaus and marriage portals. In 5% cases love marriages are happening. Another 5 % will be arranged by friends and relatives.

I arranged my own marriage. She thought we should get married and I thought why not? So we got married and never even involved our families in the decision. All they had to do was attend the wedding. Cheers!!

I am from Srilanka, where all 4 religious people live. In Srilanka also marriages takes place as u have mentioned for hindus. In muslims, the boy lives in the girls house after marriage. In christian.hindus and sinhalese, the girl lives in the boys house after marriage.

as i am indian, here in india,as u told , we do mainly arranged marriage only, that to , our parents will select our partner. discussions will go on by two sides parents before marraige and if they both agree with each other, engagement will go on and time will be fixed for marraige according to our astrology and marraige will take place within one or two months . generally most marriages will be arranged marraiges only in india (as u know ),which are seen by parents . they enquire with each other, how the family members, their financial status, their job status and if they agree all of them, they go with mediater or with any friend or relative and fix marriage. by these arrange marraiges,in india most marraiges are successful for long life . this u can know ,i think. and i have got match from my husband's relative ,who is our family friend , and he convinced both sides and i have also got this arrange marraige done, by my parents wish and their decision is good and my marraige was success upto now .after 12 years of my marriage, now i am happy in my life, and i agree with indian arranged marraiges, like in no other country, here in india most of the people respect each other in their married life and happy with it for lifelong , than other country people . we don;t go for second marraige like other country people and sometimes adjust with the relation we have now.
