It's an Arboreal Conspiracy

A couple of weeks ago I donned by thick plaid shirt. My steel capped boots. Put on my hard hat, eye protectors and ear defenders. Grabbing my trusty saw I went and felled a cherry tree in my back garden which had started to threaten the fence with my neighbour. From the ground it looked quite small. So away I went, lopping off branches until at last the trunk was bare and then I sawed and T...I...M...B...E...R! Once on the ground it became huge. I have sawn and hacked and ground. Still the darn tree is there. I will not be beaten, but I am starting to feel that this is some kind of conspiracy to serve me right for chopping it down in the first place. Are the trees fighting back? I'm a lumberjack and I'm NOT OK!

Not the trees but the tree spirits are fighting back. Did you apologise to them and explain why you were cutting the tree down? If you didn't then you only have yourself to blame and will be removing cherry tree stumps for years to come.

Hmmmm it certainly sounds like it
I guess I would to if someone tried to shrink me in Size I am already little I can't afford to get any smaller lol
Maybe you need to have a talk to it and explain that it will stay healthy and look pretty if it lets you trim it xxxx

LOL! I love that song!
Do you have a fireplace that you can burn that wood in? It would smell so good!! If you have neighbors with fireplaces, offer them the wood if they'll cut it up and haul it away. That will spare you the trouble and aggravation of cutting it all up!

Nature's way of telling you, you are NO George Washington and will never be President of the United States! Bummer.

ah Pikey, Poor tree, poor you, no beautiful cherry blossom no cherry pies no wonder the tree is fighting back. Wish I still had an open fire as I would have grabbed the logs from you. Keep at it, it you will get there in the end. Huggles. Ellie :D

My hubby wears that everyday. So funny!
Couldn't you use the pieces for furniture around a firepit in the summer?

Yeah, something really rustic (read: simple, basic) and natural.
Have you ever seen a "Muskoka Chair"? They're awesome!
Or your could just cut the logs into halves and put a couple of stumps under each end. That makes a bench, too.
But cherrywood is very sought after for making things out of.
I love anything made out of wood, myself, no matter how basic it is.

Funny how trees seem to expand once on the ground! My husband is a great fan of cutting down trees, and loves nothing better than having a bonfire. Unfortunately, we're not allowed to do that in these PC days - but he does it anyway, and I'm always on tenterhooks waiting for the fire brigade to turn up! Didn't George Washington chop down a cherry tree? I don't think that went down too well, either ...

Hi ya p1kef1sh
I would hope that you don't like to dress in women's clothing either but I am not too sure when I think about the bet you have with a fellow mylotter not so long ago! LOL
. I have a fuscia that is well established and refuses to budge! I hate to admit it but I might have to send in the heavies!

As I am a bit of a Python fan I couldn't help but comment! Yes I started a discussion about it a while ago asking if anyone new of an effective way of killing it off as you can see, I have been unsuccessful. I do like fuscia and Ihave another one but this one is right in the way where the boys play and attracts lots of bees in the summer! I have a lovely small statue holding a lamp waiting to go in it's place!

Yes, I think they do, you just don't understand their language..lol...they're living things too. I've read and article about a gardener talking to his plants and he noticed that they grew robustly. We can always experiment,..lol...happy mylotting.

I have talked to my plants before Jen. Prince Charles, who is a member of our Royal Family regularly talks to his plants and trees and says that they respond very positively.
On another subject. Whenever I go to read "Ailsa" now, my virus checker tells me that Authspot.com is a suspect site!

The smaller stuff is a royal pain, isn't it? That's why we've separated it into his and mine. He does the stuff that takes a chain saw. I work on the small stuff. I break off the little stuff in lengths the right size for the wood stove. I put the tiny stuff in a plastic box I have. I fill it every day with that tiny stuff, and use it for tinder when we get up in the morning. After pulling off the small stuff, I break the smaller sticks then throw the non-breakable ones in a pile. When I get a bunch, I haul them to the garage and use the miter saw on them. I get a lot of medium stuff that works very well on top of the tinder.
I've actually gone through a LOT of the brush left over from people cutting trees down. Just doing a box every day. Hard on the hands though.

Thank you! I feel it's only right. But the chainsaw scares me. I don't think I could cut down one of the big trees. Maybe a small one, then if it landed on me it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm scared when he's out cutting, because people die out here from trees landing on them all the time. Had one just last week.
I want to be with him, so I can call an ambulance if necessary. Or at least be with him if it hits. Don't much want to be left alone!!

I'm guessing that you don't have a woodburner huh? We get all excited when we get a monster tree to cut down, and I mentally portion it into how many evening's of heat I'll get out of it. It makes the hauling around so much more enjoyable!
I think that the man of the house just enjoys the machinery involved though!
