hello everybody here at Mylot. guess what? i received a free cupcake today at Kroger's grocery store. i went to Kroger's this morning to buy a cupcake, just one cupcake, not two, not one chocolate or yellow cake, and not one that has balloons and happy birthday on it, could you just please give me one plain cupcake? the lady behind the deli today told me that she couldn't package me up just one plain cupcake. we'll see about that. lol i put the cupcakes that i was looking at back on the shelf and i proceeded to make my way up front to the customer service desk, but even better than that, when i got up to the front of the store, the manager was standing there, lol, i went straight to him and told him what had just happened at the deli. he said come on we'll walk back there and you show me which woman that it was, so we did, and i showed him the lady that said she couldn't give me just one plain cupcake, he went behind the deli area there with her, and the next thing that i know was here came the manager with my single cupcake. i was so happy! and even happier that when he handed me the cupcake, he said here is your cupcake, and it is free for you today, and sorry about the trouble that you had. lol whoo hoo! so tell me, have you ever gotten something totally free at the grocery store before? thanks for sharing and have a beautiful afternoon.

Yes I have, they are pretty tuned in to customer service and a complaint usually get some type of results. I've even gotten a letter from the President of the store It Was before Fred Meyers was taken over by Kroger.

Wow, that's really great!!! I can't remember a specific time right now, but I know it has happened in the past. The reward is so nice sometimes, I almost look forward to the hostile customer service reps. LOL I am not one of these people who just lets things slide, I prefer to speak up. I guess they werre right when they said the squeaking wheel gets the oil.

Hi TnWoman! Wow, that is very nice! What a wonderful morning you had there my friend. A free cupcake could really sure make my day! I haven't received anything for free for a long time now here. Everything here has a price tag nowadays. I guess, because of the economy. But maybe, who knows one of these days, there will be something in the grocery or any deli who will just give something for free. That would be really a little miracle for me. haha.. Take care and have a wonderful day! lovelots..faith

I can't imagine why the person couldn't have given you a cupcake! When I worked for Kroger we were told that whatever the customer wants, give it to them within reason. Employees were awarded pins for performance, got bonuses when customers paid them compliments, etc. I think you just ran across a rogue employee in a bad mood. I've never been given anything free like that, I don't think, but I won a basket of goodies once at a grand opening of Fry's (branch of Kroger) out west. First and only prize I've won.

It was a very nice basket. Coffee, tea, cookies, jam and jelly, a bouquet of fresh flowers and some English Toasting bread. Probably a few other things but that's all I remember. I've seen a LOT of what you're describing, it's almost like the customer is a bother and their real job is to gossip with each other or talk on their cell phones. Even the older employees are getting to be this way sometimes. I'm sure it will change soon--this economy is going to teach people to value their jobs.

The grocery store by where I use to like had single cup cakes in the bakery department for 59 cents. That is silly that she did not want to sell you just one. The only free things I have ever gotten at a grocery store is a free cookie for the kids and at one place they give the kids free fruit.

LoL... good for you TnWoman! Sometimes it pays to complain a little, even if it is to just make a point. I have gotten free stuff before online when I've complained about a product to the company. I have gone to their website & then found their "contact us" link. I have gotten a free 6 pack of Propel before... I do remember that. I have received other stuff too but I just can't remember what right now. At our Kroger grocery store, they frequently have free cookies in a little bin for anybody to try. They are really yummy! :)

Hi TnWoman! Congratulations on sticking to your principles! Sometimes it does pay off! And I do hope you enjoyed your free cupcake! lol I think that is too funny! I don't see any reason why they couldn't sell you one cupcake! But, I guess it is to your advantage since you ended up getting it anyway and getting it for free! I love when thouse things just happen! Nope! I haven't had anything like that happen to me! I usually just get pissed off and leave the store!

I am so glad that you got your cupcake free. It wasn't at a grocery store but about a month ago I got a free Birthday cake from a bakery. I ordered a cake for my nephews Birthday with "Happy Birthday Ryan" on it and they put "Happy Birthday Brian" on it. They apologized an offered me the cake free of charge. I took it home and scraped Brian off and piped on Ryan and we were good to go! All that cake cost me was a little time making some white icing blue with food coloring and piping it on with the corner of a ziplock cut out!

she got a computer - Brittney
Yes, tatty I have gotten something free at Walmarts. I went to buy a Bratz computer for my grandaughters birthday. They had them on sale. It was one of the items in their sale paper that came out. Well my husband and I got there went down the iles and found the computer that we wanted. It was the day of her birthday and we were going in a few hours to her party. At the check out it wouldn't ring up. We stood there for over an two hours waiting. Now since my health is not good I wound up sitting down at the register behind the cashier. I sat on the carrisale that holds the bags. I can't stand long over about 10 minutes. Here it is I'd been standing over an hour. I was feeling really bad by now. I had been standing for a long time. The manager was called for It took him over an hour to come to the register. No one knew where he was, he was suppose to be close by. Him, the assisstant manager, the cashier and the head cashier just couldn't get the thing to ring up. On top of that they told me I couldn't get it if it wouldn't ring up. I said why can't I just give you the money since we know how much it is and when you can get it to ring up then do so and put the money in. Noooo they couldn't do that. This was one of those times when it's all you want for a gift and your mind is set on having this one item. My husband got upset. I was really felling bad by the this time and he was worried about me. As he got mad that it was in their sale paper and now they were telling us that we couldn't get it because they couldn't get it to ring up. My husband had to go back in the toys section and find something for our granddaughter. I went home and I immediatly wrote a letter to walmart and emailed it to them. I got a response back telling me to go back to walmart and get the computer that I could have it for all of the troubles we went through. You can bet I went to pick it up. So now after the problems at walmart we now had a computer for our granddaughter to give her for Christmas. Our granddaughters birthday is Nov. 21. We picked up the new computer and was so pleased that they made good on the problems they gave us that day.

Now that's what I call customer service, and that manager should be praised! I think the manager, sensing a little unhappiness on the part of the customer, exercised good discretion to do some damage control. Not only did he delight you with letting you have one cupcake, he also gave you cause to celebrate by not charging you...so that's a double delight. That single cupcake may not have cost much to the store, but the manager's kind gesture may give rise to happier customers and better reputation for the store, which in turn can result in increased business. That's definitely a forward looking approach adopted by this manager. Please give me the address of that store so that I can go there myself and try buying one cupcake. Who knows, I might just get a free cupcake like you...LOL!!

Yay! Good for you. I don't get why the lady couldn't give you just one cupcake. Surely it's happened before!? It's not really that much of an unusual request.. Well I'm glad you got a good result. Actually today we did get some free food, but only because they were giving out samples at the cheese counter in our supermarket. There was some really strong cheddar, some green cheese (with sage), and some brie. All of it was really nice, and I went back for seconds, lol!

That's why Kroger's is the largest grocery chain in North America. Their prices aren't bad and they do have good customer service.

Well, it sounds like you quiet enjoyed having that free cupcake of yours, Hey, mabye next time you could ask her for a plain cake! LOL Actually, I've never gotten anything free from any grocery store!:( But there has been this time when the store clerk didn't have enough change for the right amount and I was rewarded a free penny! LOL You could say it was pathetic and nothing to be proud of and I would agree with you, all I said to him was "Okay", it wasn't anything special.
