Cheap Cooking Idea's

Hi everyone! I came across this really interesting site yesterday. It was mentioned on Yahoo home page and I did a little checking. There is a blog and video's on your tube. The site is www.depressioncookingwithclara.com it's about this 93 year old Aunt, and her (nephew?) made these video's of her making "depression meals" from the original depression. She does talk while cooking telling about how it was then. According to the TV clip even Emril has tried some of the recipies. I haven't watched all the video's but I'm going back to do so. I thought it was not only relivant to our time right now, but also interesting. Maybe get some ideas, realize how hard things could get, start saving some money by using some of the recipies. It made me think that if she could survive, I can too. I don't have much of a problem with some of the ingredients, but I think hubby may think otherwise. But, then again he may have no choice. So, if you get a chance to view the site and video's let me know what you thought.

I know that you have posted the corrected link in another discussion you've started but am not sure what the question entails so therefore I am going to respond to you here. I think that that will be a great and useful site and am so very glad that you have found that. I will look into as soon as I get to your other discussion. I also wanted to say that I hope you don't mind me following your discussions as I know that you are looking for better ways to earn and was hoping that by my responding to you I can help in a little way by giving you something else to respond to. This discussion also interested me so hence it's the first on my discussions you've started find! Have a very lovely day!

It does make it easier sometimes to reply to someone you've been talking to. I didn't have any questions regarding the website, but I did want to share it with others under frugal living. She makes some very interested recipies from the "great Depression" that actually taste pretty good. I responded to one post that I think it would be great if she came out with a cookbook and I wouldn't mind reading a book if she had one written about herself growing up durring the depression. I think she was in junior high/high school at that time. To hear her stories, it really makes you wonder if society today can make it if times get any rougher. At least then, you could still barter, we didn't depend on technology as much, and I don't think people were as "spoiled" as they are today. According to her, they didn't even have a refridgerator! I just can't imagine. Hubby thinks I'm being paranoid, but I'm just trying to prepare for the worst. I don't see the economy getting any better soon, and a friend of mine has been in the same boat I am for almost a year now. But she has space to grow a garden which can be helpful. Maybe I'll do a search at our library and see if I can find some books to get helpful hints from. Thank you, I wouldn't have thought of that if you hadn't responed. I'll catch you later!

I know that times were a lot tougher around the great depression, I've seen pictures of it. Although I'm not sure if they were real or fake as I'd seen them online, I wouldn't doubt that what was shown in the photos went on. I can believe that the lady had no refrigerator growing up as I think I've heard of that, or read a book in which although I do believe they had a refrigerator, they still had to go out a lot to get food. Back then I'm sure it wasn't as efficient as refrigerators now. Which brings me to my next point, technology can be helpful and it can be harmful. Every day that computers are thrown away it harms. My fiance and I had to throw a laptop away because it could not be used, it was older and so parts probably would be useful either. I hate that we had to do that, but I try to do other things to not only save money as so many people are trying to do now, but to save the environment too. My fiance and I bought a few things to start a garden but the koons got to it or the rabbits. I think maybe even the deer, lol, but that's beside the point. Not only can you find useful things at the library but don't forget about people here on mylot. There are several frugal discussion interests, and as you said in another discussion very helpful people. I hope that you can find more ways to make money and hopefully ways to be frugal. Go to any search engine and type in penny pinchin' grandma, she has a wonderful site.
