Blog without ads

I saw many high traffic blogs without having ads.many blogs having traffic range of more than 15000/day.But they have no ads.So what is the purpose of their blogs?.They wasted their time in blogging everyday.At least they have to put cpm ads to get use of their traffic.My blog hardly gets traffic.So i know the value of traffic.Is anybody having the same experience like me?
