Do you check other discussions before writing your own?

I just posted a discussion on blogging because I'm so "blogging illiterate" and then I noticed I'm not the only one who doesn't know how to do it. Did I feel dumb after reading others? You bet I do! Have you ever started a discussion to find out later that it's already been discussed? Do you think people will skip yours because they already answered the same question for someone else?

I try to check sometimes but I have found that the search function is a little unreliable. I will try to search what I want to start a discussion on a few different ways and nothing comes up but as soon as I post mine a list of 'similar discussions' comes up and bang! there's one just like mine. I wouldn't worry too much though, there's a thousand what do you like on your hamburger, what do you like on your pizza, what is your favorite color questions out there so two similar questions about blogging likely wont raise any eyebrows!

Sometimes I do forget to check. I get so excited to have actually thought of a new topic. I guess it happens to us all.
