What do you do when you meet a nice man. Get married and then he states that either he will leave or the dog has to go..I have had my do for 14 years "she is my baby" we have been married for 5years. This discussion has escalated and has now gotten to the point when he is leaving. I am heartbroken, I cannot throw an old dog to the curb..I made my commitment when I made the decision to get a dog...If ever I get involved with anyone the have to love animals..

Why after 5 years does the dog suddenly have to go? Personally, I'd kick him to the curb, the dog was there first! I think whoever is making you choose would have to be the one to go. If it's a friend saying "choose between me or your boyfriend" then they are not a good friend! If it's a boyfriend saying "choose between your mom and me" then he's got to go! I am very sorry for what you are going through. :(

I love animals, and I have two cats, and I would never get rid of them for the world. I honestly think that if this man loves you as much as he says he does, he should accept all areas of your life and not threaten to leave you over a dog.

I'd kick him to the curb. His behavior is abusive. He married you knowing full well that you have a dog. Now he wants you to get rid of a dog that you have had and loved for 14 years. No way. He can just cope with the dog. He needs to get a clue. I hope you make the right decision and keep and protect and cherish your canine friend. Tell hubby that you wont stand for his abusive behavior. It is abuse.

What kind of man is that? He should be more sensitive about your feelings. I can't believe he even had the guts to let you choose between him and the dog. I think he is pretty cruel with your dog in some ways by letting him go. 14 years is a lot of years invested with love and he won't be taking your dog away from you just like that.
