Work put me on a Dating site...

For those of you who know me, you know I write. If you don't know me, well now you know I write. I also just got out of a relationship, so honestly dating is the furthest thing from my mind. The last one left a bad taste in my mouth. I am working for a new company here in NY and one of the writing projects, is for me to go on a dating site and write about it. Why? Because I am single. They want me to go not just one dating site, two. Ode to Joy is running through my head right now. I can't help but wonder though if perhaps someone is trying to tell me something. I am not sure. Have any of you ever used dating sites? What do you think of them? Do you cringe like I do when I think about going on them? I will have to thank the company for having me do something that I normally would not do. I still say the sites are silly but hey, it is for a story. Let's see where this goes. Ainge Thanks in advance for any comments.

Rose, I promise, you are one of the first people I will be contacting. I am working on this money issue for those of us who are surviving on little but bread and faith. Ainge

Well I've never been listed on one, but I did spend time answering the massive questionnaire on eHarmony. My daughter, however, met her husband on-line and the relationship lasted for 8 years. My biggest fear however, is predation. Yes, I cringe - All kinds of nuts out there. So, be careful, girl. Peace, The Shaklee Lady

Shaklee Lady, Thank you, I am feeling that too. I don't usually meet people from online. My stories usually consist of me actually meeting them face to face. Being this is NY, I am always careful and my roomie always has my check in dates and times so if anything and I mean anything goes wrong, she has her protocol. I did think about what you are saying about the nuts on the net. I might be one of them you never know. Just teasing, but it is true. We never know who is behind that screen. Thankfully when people write, I do see a lot in the writing. How they write and the grammar they use, do they use punctuation, do they know what spell check is? Silly things like that. Thanks for your support and responding. Will keep all updated. No one said I can't tell my MyLot friends what I had for dinner. Ainge Adorable lil one.

You would think that someone trying to get a date would put his best foot forward and proofread! Worse than some of the grammar for me was that I had taken time with my profile and almost none of them had taken the time to read it. One guy said he preferred to ask questions. Grrrrr!

Hmmm...dating sites. I've met one of my best friends, ever, after we unsuccessfully dated..., through one of those, but I've also met a couple of psychos as well. Tough...

So, really, you met some psycho from those dating sites? Wow, I can't imagine that I want to join them, and meet one or two of those strangers out there. Some might just be psycho like you described them.

I never been to any of those dating sites, such as harmony.com, match.com, etc.... Although I heard some many great things about those websites, but I just don't want to pay for those sites to become a premium member? If you don't pay, you only have limit advantages just sign up for free. So, tell me, do you have to pay for those dating sites when you write those stories? Or your company gonna cover for you?

I have been on dating sites before and wanted to write about the experience. I saved my emails from the first time around and then changed my mind and delted them. I still have a lot of mail from the last stint and I just signed up at helium and have been trying to decide what my first article will be. You've given me something to think about. My situation is the opposite of yours. I was ready to start over and checked out a couple sites but to say it was "slim pickings" would be the understatement of the century. I deleted my account after only one month (if that) and when the site asked why I told them I thought I could do a better job than what they were providing. The irony here as that I ended up in a relationship with someone I had known before within weeks of the experience. I've hesitated writing about dating and relationship stuff in the past because it seems like the kind of topic for the "experts" like therapists and counselors. But now...

Well Canellita, We are all experts in something. You don't need a degree. Good for you on the article. I am sure you will have a very valuable incite to these places. My publisher/editor just thought it would be a good chance to have a story and I could go out. I stay home 90% of the time. I think you should do that article, you may help someone. Also I am on helium as well, you may add me if you like. My name is Aingealicia so that is what I use for all my writings. Ainge

Think of the adventure. Think of the intrigue. Hmmm don't remember dating being that much fun until I met my husband. Anyway, maybe you will be able to tell a really interesting story and it will someday be made into a movie and your name will be listed as the writer. Then when you show up to the Oscars in your designer gown, you will know it was all worth it. LOL Hey crazier things have happened!

True enough. I believe it was for a reason, the question is what reason. I know it will make a good story, because they had me put my 'actual' job on the site. It will be an interesting journey either way and hey it is NY so you never know what you are going to find here. I figured most writers are single, however they gave it to me. I am happy about it, just a bit cautious. I am thinking about the free meals...oh did I type that. Only kidding. I do think it will be a very interesting story because of the fact so many people travel through NY that there is always a chance of meeting people from other countries as well. Thanks, Ainge Oh will let you know if I make it to the Oscars.

definitely a great adventure on it. You might meet the love of your life once again. And don't be afraid to love again. You might find what you are looking for. So, go ahead and write a good story about it. Hope to hear from you soon!
