i've been using just plain hand soap to wash my makeup brushes, but i was wondering, should i be washing them a different way, and if it would have any effect on the way their being washed??

it depends on the type of brush, some brushes require that you use a specialized cleaner. my sister works for MAC so she gets me their brush cleaner and it works fine. she recommends baby shampoo too, but i dont clean my brushes as often as i should..

yeah, i heared thatt you should do spot cleaning too. most of my brushes are goat hair, i might have one or two that are synthetic.

baby shampoo! its super cheap, i wet the palm of my hand and my brushes and put some baby shampoo in my hand and swirl each brush around in it. and rinse until its clean. make sure you kind of mold the brush back into its proper shape before letting it dry, sometimes washing your brushes can ruin them!

Actually I have written an article about it long time ago, you could just use a regular shampoo for it, the detailed method is here: http://beauty-tricks.com/beautyblog/?p=67

Hand soap should be fine. Also baby shampoo is nice and gentle, hand soap may be more drying to the bristles. I actually used Dawn liquid dish washing soap and was amazed how clean it got my brushes and makeup bags. Not sure if it is the best way to go...anyone know for sure?
