Is it human nature?

The more we have the more we want. I guess human nature has it that we are never quite satisfied with out lot. If we are fortunate enough to have reached a goal there will be another waiting in the wings. I consider myself lucky; there is just one thing that would put icing on my cake. A successful, profitable writing career perhaps? Let's face I'll always be wanting something! What is the one "other" thing you wish you had in your life?

I used to harp on a B school degree, then I shifted to a dance career, then to a successful home maker job and there had been so many things in the list. As I have grown my priorities have changed as well. But the only constant thing in my life was to be a decent human doing a lot of normal things but in my own ways. Visiting the old home, playing with kids, helping someone to cross the road, bringing a smile on someone's face....I try to do things that I find fascinating. that amuses me and helps me live thus. But, trust me I just can't get enough of it. There has always been an inch less and I want to make that inch up. May be someday! Wish me luck dear.

You have had a rich full life already; full of diverse things and I agree that at the end of the day it's not about what or how much you accomplish; it's about how you live your life. Good luck with all your endeavours mimpi!

There is always the what if's in life. We can't always have everything that we want in life, but it would be nice. Life is just not that way for some of us. A writing career would be great Good luck to you.

We will always wonder how things could have been, I guess. I would like to learn to focus more on the here now though. Thanks!

I hear you Paula, with the recession the way it is, one definitely has to think of the here and now, and then later the what if's. Have a good one. Hugs Mary PS. I have a friend that lives in Benalla.

I believe it's the one more thing we want, or the one more goal we set ourselves gives us reason to live. I'm getting old, but always have something to aim for, or look forward to. To me, this is a blessing. Good luck with your writing

Thanks. As bhatt99in stated when you cease having goals your downfall will start. It is not necessarily a bad thing to strive for the next thing providing we don't become too obsessed. Thanks!

There is a big difference between setting yourself difficult, but achievable goels, and wanting to 'keep up with the Joneses.' We must be careful that we don't get greedy with material things. I've now started work on my second novel and have set the end of 2010 as my goal. That's achievable, but if I'm pretty close, that's OK too.

It's a great thing to be satisfied with your lot. Of course if we look hard enough we can always want more but to be content right now is a blessing. I appreciate your response!

Yes, it is human nature to want for more and more. Humans are never satisfied. It is nothing but expansion; the desire to expand oneself; the desire to grow and grow. There are so many people who have achieved so much in life, but they do not stop ahieving. They go on still achieving more and more.

Hi Paula! Yes, there is no end that life seeks. Fulfill one now and the next moment it would come up with another. But we can give a check to this stream once decide on one mission. Now see I am happy with what I have. I wish not to be a political lrader nor a famed singer but as I am in the writing fraternity I would love to write and have decided that I would try for a 'Nobel Prize" for Literature. ha ha ha Yes since my college days I would say my friend that I would be the second Indian to fetch a Nobel prize for literature after Rabindra Nath Tagore. how is the idea?

I think it is human nature that people tend to be not contented and keep on wanting more. I think it is okay if that what makes us work harder and strive more unless the effect is negative. What I want is to have a family of my own and have children. Hope to get married soon. Happy MyLotting!

I do not care about wanting anything at all. I think of many things but I never obsess with anything. I don't have anything but it does not bother me. I have life and this is all I need to live. I do not have to have fun or excitement. Cheers!!

Good day... For me it's a matter of perspective and I believe that we couldn't have everything we want heck we don't even own our time and life. I think simple things and simple moments of happiness are enough for me to want for each. Just being with my wife and love ones will be enough. Contentment is a matter of choice.

That's a refreshing way to look at life. Sometimes going back to basic simple pleasures is all we need. Thank you for a good response!
