Hi, My eldest daughter will be turning 11 in 9 days and I have no idea what to get her!!! She seems to be at this very awkward stage where things she was into 6/12 months ago she's to old for and other things I have looked at she's too young for!!! She recently had a very adult hair cut and my hair straighteners have disappeared into the void that is her bedroom. I have got her some of her own & a hairdryer to match as a present. My husband got her some skis to take on holiday, which we returned from 2 weeks ago & told her they were an early birthday present but I really can't put them in the birthday present bracket. I have got her some clothes & accessories. Friends/family are buying her some Nintendo games she wanted or giving her money. I am at a loss, I don't want to get her something she will never use or give her too much money as she will spend it on rubbish & have nothing to show for it!! Help please!!! Any suggestions??? What did you get your 11 yr old??

Here are some ideas: a journal, jewlry box (if her ears are pierced then a more adult pair of earings that are still age appropriate), art supplies such as drawing paper and oil pastels, a stereo/cd player, like the previous post said: a book, perhaps one you enjoyed at her age write her a letter about the things that you have done together and the things that you wish for her in the year to come. Another idea would be to offer to let her redecorate her room (on a budget of course), paint, posters, bed spread. And she could use some of her birthday money on new accesories. Tell her happy birthday from us at mylot

Since she is already writing about Hannah Montana why not try to find a diary, jouranl book or something with Hannah on it. That way she knows that is her Hannah story.

Wanted to add, maybe a camera with a Hannah scrapbook theme. Then she can take pictures of her friends and put them in the scrapbook.

Thanks, I like the journal idea as she loves reading & writing!! She is currently writing a book on Hannah Montana & has proudly informed me she is upto page 88!! She already has paints pens etc and we did her room as a chritmas present with all new furniture she liked from Ikea as she had survived without a wardrobe for 12 months!! x I could arrange to have her ears pierced as she had them done a while ago but ended up having an operation 2 weeks later on a lump inside her mouth and had to take them out and we couldn't get them back in. (we didn't know about the op until after having them done) x Thanks MrsL x x

My grand daughter will be 11 on the 16th March. They sure are growing up apace at that age and it's very difficult to know whether what they want at this moment is what they will want in a month or so's time! She is a lovely little lady who is enthusiastic as a puppy about everything she does. She is into wildlife and natural history, art, maths, science, reading (and the films associated with them, so DVDs are always a good bet), ballet, diving (she's been in the local Junior team), football, netball, Brownies (even though she should technically have moved up to Guides), clothes, computers, music and more too numerous to mention. She is very good and sensible with money and has an eye for a bargain, so I wouldn't mind giving her money (and she often asks for that) though I'd rather give 'things'. I think that the 11th birthday is quite a special one. Here in the UK it's a big age because it's the transition from Junior school to Senior (or rather, Middle) school. My GD will be moving to a school where she will be for the next 5 years (or maybe 7 years, if she stays on for the 6th form) - in fact, quite likely until she goes to University. In the next year she will make new friendship groups and, doubtless, begin to be interested in boys. 11 is the last year or so before she becomes a 'teenager' but she has so many young adult friends about her that I think she may cope with that better than many. I am considering a more adult present, such as a watch or, perhaps, some jewellery - something that might be a memento or a keepsake - but I have yet to ask her mother what she thinks suitable.

How you describe your gd's interest is almost like describing my daughter!! She also dances including Ballet which takes up most of her spare time, she also takes part in a creative workshop, also takes an active role in all the sports she can fit in, Football, rugby, netball etc. She also attends scouts!! We've just had the offer from the high school were we want her to go to, we chose it because it is a technology colledge which actively promotes their outside interests with a view to getting them scouted if their good enough! We also hope she'll got university but she has been set on a dance instructor for some time and is already way ahead of most of the girls at her dance academy & is the youngest in her grade. I am looking at buying something she can treasure such as a special bracelet. Thanks MrsL x x

I can't really relate mrsl since I don't have any kids but you can get tons of ideas online. I don't know if an 11 year old would like this but I got my girlfriend a customized rubix cube for her birthday, with the colored squares replaced with that of her friends and family. You could also just ask her what she wants although it would not be surprise anymore, but you can get an idea of what she's into. Hope this helps.

I feel your pain...my daughter just turned 11, and talk about a crazy age!!! Anyways, I bought her a BUNCH of makeup and hair products. She always takes my make up, so I went out and got her a ton of her own makeup. I also got her a straightening iron, along with a bunch of attachments. Oh, I would also suggest a gift certificate at her favorite clothing store. My daughter loves Limited Too. We have them here in the States, I am not sure if you have them over there. Good luck!

I have never heard of a Limited shop but she recently discovered Republic, which is a store that sells designer clothes so that might be a very good idea!! She already has make up for her dancing and doesn't really like wearing it but I'm sure that is only a matter of time!!!! Thanks MrsL x x

I agree that gifts don't just have to be about the material side of things however with society today they want all the lastest gadgets & fashions!!! She has asked for a sleep over so I may let her have this instead of a party x MrsL x

I don't have an 11 yr old daughter, mine is only 8, so I can't really tell you what to get her. What is she asking for? It sounds like she is already getting alot of gifts for her birthday. I only spend $30 on birthday gifts for my children. We do a big family dinner and have a party too, but we don't go broke from it. Why not get her a special charm bracelet or something like that?

She's asking for money but as I said I don't want her wasting it on stuff she'll never use as she if she only has a £1 she'll spend it instead of saving it. We've tried to install the saving attitude in her but thats just not rubbing off at the moment!! I like the idea of a charm bracelet or a piece of jewellery so thank you for that!! x I may let her have a sleepover instead of a party, if my mum will have the little one over night so they can use both rooms. Thank you for the response x x MrsL x x

When my oldest turned 11 she didn't get much at all! She got some books, she started to read another line of books about that time and wven if we have tons of books at home - it is the best gift for her. She also got som clothes, but since we've got many hand down clothes and I used to sell clothes she al ready have plenty. A party for the friends would be nice I guess. My middle one will not get much at all for her birthday this year (she turns 10) since she's hore back riding and that cost a lot of money. For next Christmas I guess there will be skiis since they don't have any this year.

My daughter dances which takes up alot of her free time & is really expensive with kit, different types of dance shoes & show tickets etc Thanks MrsL x x

Hi mrsl2008.I gave my daughter an ipod video when she turned 11 a couple of years ago.If your daughter doesn't have one yet,an ipod itouch would be a nice present.I'm sure she'll love it. If she doesn't have the twilight saga yet,you might wanna get her those books.Kids in her age group are still into this craze. It really is hard thinking of what to give our children.I also run out of ideas most of the time.Just like you,I am not into giving cash for birthday gifts as well. Good luck on your gift hunting. Happy birthday in advance to your lovely daughter. Happy mylottin!

Your daughter is lucky. She is going to get so many things from clothing to skis. When I am back from travel, I like to get for my grandson some latest animation DVD not available on local market. And on birthdays or festivals, we buy series children book packages for him. Books are expensive in some countries, but occasionals should be affordable. The classic fairy tales will accompany girls in their growing, teaching them all the values they are supposed to cherish.

My daughter loves to read but has too many books as it is and is still reading the ones from christmas!! She is lucky & has been a bit spoilt in the last 12 months as we had another child who we didn't plan on. Although she herself is not spoilt, far from it, she would give anyone anything, is always respectful regardless of who she is dealing with! I think this is why I'm stuck, we've gotten her too much in order to make her not feel left out! Although now I realise she didn't feel that way anyway!! x Thanks for the suggestion MrsL x x

Give her a decent amount of money. That way, no matter what, she can't be disappointed.

Although she would be very pleased with the money, the whole idea is not to give her money as it will just burn a hole in her pocket & my attic full of the junk she'll spend it on x Thanks MrsL x
