If someone calls you in to work...

do you always say yes. I used to be the yes girl all the time. I still am at times, but I know my limits now. I used to wear myself out by volunteetring all the time and going in...now I do it on a reasonable level. So can you say no, or do you always say yes in fear of upsetting your supervisors?

I work most days anyway, so it's not like I face this situation too often. But if my manager does call me on my "day off", I'll usually say yes if I'm available that day, only because I'd be happy to take a few more hours here and there (it's a rare thing in this economy, wouldn't you say?) If I'm unavailable at the time, or at my second job, I have no choice but to say no, and luckily, I have a VERY understanding manager.

I used to volunteer to work extra hours all the time. After a while, 50+ hour weeks got really old. Of course, I like to to stay away from my job as much as possible these days. I only go in for extra time if there is absolutely no other choice. As a supervisor myself, the options are limited. I do really appreciate people coming in when I need them. But, if they don't, I understand all too well the need to have their time off.
