I have just heard that the city is finally going to be doing recycle pick up in my neighborhood. I am so excited. My husband and I try to do our part and recycle as much as we can but, it is really hard because we have a really small car and can never take a lot in at one time. Most times we would get my dad to help us out with his truck. I hate doing that though because they have their own stuff that they need to get done. Well last night I was visiting with my parents and they told me that the city is finally doing recycle pick up. Apparently they are going to provide us with those little blue bins and then every time there is a garbage pick up, they are going to do a recycle pick up as well. We still have to take in our own bottle recycles but that we don't mind doing. I think this will be great because now we will be recycling a lot more, right now we only do the bottles and cardboard. Now that they have this pick up service I will be recycling my paper, plastic and newspapers and believe me I always have lots of those. I think it is great that we are now starting to take better care of our environment, what about you? Do you recycle? How often do you recycle? What do you recycle? Does the area that you live in have a program like this? Do you think that they should? Would you ever petition to have your neighborhood do more for the environment? What else do you think that we can do to help save our plante?

I am also a resident of Calgary, Alberta, so I know what you are talking about. The little blue bins aren't too little though. They are pretty big and becoming a problem for some home owners.
They started the pick ups just in the last couple weeks and some people have no room in the back where the garbage is picked up. There has to be 4 feet free on all sides of the bin so they can pick it up with a machine. A lot of people don't have room on all sides so now it was on the news, that some people didn't get theirs picked up because of it. So now what do those people do with it when they have no room for it?
I live in the north east so we don't start till later on. Our area is the last area they will be setting up and if I am not mistaken it won't be till July. We are fortunite enough to have enough room in the back where we have to put ours, along with our garbage.
I like the idea of recycling and have been doing it since I moved here 8 years ago, but now it will just be easier, like you said, don't have to haul them away ourselves.
I do the bottle recycling too, and now that the prices have gone up it doesn't take much to add up. We had three garbage bags full and got $24.45 for them and I was in shock. I never knew the prices went up so I figured I only had about $10.00 worth.

My neighhood recycles paper, cardboard and cans. Its picked up once a week just like the regular garbage. However we don't recyle glass yet. I do know that not all the areas in New Mexico recycle which doesn't make any type of sense to me.
But I try to do my part always such as always asking for Paper bags at the store instead of plastic when available.

Not very good timing on behalf of your city really. The bottom has dropped out of the recycling market with the recession.
Our local authority is still collecting all the recycled trash but because they can't sell it any more it is just going into the big hole in the ground as it was years ago.
