History project- any ideas?

My kids are home schooled and I have decided to sign them up for a history project fair. It will be like a science fair but it will be a history project instead. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what kind of project would be good for this or even a good subject that I could have them consider. So what interests you about history?

Hi Carolcash maybe your kids can research the history of games and toys, I don't know how old your children are but it could be an interesting subject as all kids have toys and games which they play/played with.

That is actually a good idea. I thought about having them research the game of Monopoly. It would be an easy one to find plenty of stuff for to do a project I would think.

As I live in France, I would be tempted to suggest either the French Revolution, Industrial Revolution or First and Second Wars. As these are topics that are important in knowing modern European Culture. In your case, as you are from the United States, I would be tempted to steer towards the History of your Country, The first landings of the Fore-Fathers, The Indian Wars, The War of Independence or The Civil War.

All of these are good ideas but not exactly what I was looking at. I think that they should do something a little more fun than just a regular history lesson and I think that it will have to be something that is of some interest to them. Thanks for the ideas though.

It depends on how old your kids are. You can maybe get them to make something like they did in the nineteenth century or maybe the eighteenth century. Get them to dress up like revolutionary times, etc. If there is a museum town near where you live, you can take them to that and show how the people lived long ago, like perhaps cowboys in the old west, people in the 18th century, etc.

I always liked it when people dressed in those old costumes. When we lived in Saskatoon we used to go to the Old Museum where they had a town that looked like it was in the 1900s and when we went to Prince Edward Island, we went to Anne of Green Gable's cottage and saw how they lived then. It was very exciting finding how they actually worked in those days. And if we do or I go to the States, I would like to go to Williamsburg to see how they lived in the 1700s.

It would be nice to see them dressed up like that. I will suggest it to them when we start to work on this over this upcoming week. Thanks for the ideas!!

I would like to go to Williamsburg at some time too. I think it would be a fun trip and that we would all learn a lot about colonial times. I have been to Virginia but never Williamsburg.

I've always enjoyed the study of how people lived at different times in history. They could compare the modern conveniences of today, to how people functioned in daily life during a certain era in the past. Personally, I'd find that interesting!

That is a good idea too. I think that they would enjoy doing colonial times and I thought that I might have them combine a couple of ideas from here. How about the study of toys that they play today combined to the toys that were played with in colonial times.
