When Pain keeps you awake

It's not a good night for me here. I have chronic leg pain from leg ulcers. I've had non-healing ulcers for 5+ years now and they're not getting better. I've been on moderate to severe pain meds and have slowly been creeping up in dosages now. I think that I have reached my limit on that level of pain meds. I think I need to go on something that is longer acting, but I am afraid to take anything stronger. know that doesn't make sense if I am that much pain, but I've been very aware of the consequenses of taking anything stronger. Even with what I take now, at times, it leaves me feeling doped up, I can't think and I get what I call "med head" in the morning. Can anyone recommend what I can talk to my doctor about taking that is longer acting or what is better to take for pain management protocol? DCMerkle

I take long acting pain relievers. People in pain rarely get addicted. Maybe dependent. Take care.

Soapies, Since I last posted this I have been lucky enough to finally find a pain med that, though not long acting, is non-addictive. It took me 2 years to finally get my insurance (HMO) to pay for it, but it works. I take it twice a day and only use the hydrocodone that I was taking as a break through med. It's to the point now where I only have to take it maybe 2-3 times a week! The med that I am taking now is Ultram or Tramadol. I've been doing so much better on it that I am getting out more, walking without much of a limp and it is taking the swelling down in my legs that was causing the leg ulcers to stay non-healing. I still have some pain, but it's the kind of pain that I know that is being caused by the bandaging on my legs and not the disease itself. Have a good day, DCMerkle
