You can get the title for your home and it will list every owner and most activites that took place on the land from when it was registered with the local courty system. I know you can get this from the court house if you don't have one. Many motrgage companies keep them on file as well.

In India, the ownerhip details of a house/landed property is easily known through: 1. Copy of the sale deed 2. Copy of Tax paid receipt (which indicates owner's name) 3. Copy of Encumberance certificate (A certificate issued by office of Registrar which indicates the ownership of land for the past 35 to 50 years - one has to pay fees for issuing such a certificate. 4. The Survey of land records dept. will issue a survey map indicating the history of land.
