Have you ever used a mascara that made your eyelashes break off?

A few weeks ago I purchased two Maybelline Intense XXL Volume+Length Mascara. At first I loved it. I felt it did make my lashes look fuller and longer. However, just last week I noticed when applying my mascara that all of a sudden on my left eye from the middle of the eye over to the inner corner my lashes were basically gone! They were just stubs! Well, then this week on my right eye the same thing has happened only in the middle part over the eye. It is so embarrassing. I am convinced it is this mascara that caused it. I am in my late 40's and have been wearing mascara since I was 12 yrs. old and I've never had anything like this happen. I might add that it is waterproof and I use eye make-up remover which works great. I never have to pull or tug to get my make-up off. Funny thing is I mentioned this to a friend the other day. Didn't tell her about the mascara just showed her my lashes. She said "The same thing has happened to me and it is from "Maybelline Intense XXL mascara". I told her that is what I was using and suspected! I would love to know if this has happened to anyone else? Are my lashes going to grow back? I did contact Maybelline by phone this morning. They took down all my info. including some numbers off my mascara. She said they would refund my purchase price for the two tubes. Which is fine but what about my lashes? She states that they will grow back. I wonder how long it will take?
