Pay It Forward, another act of kindness!

Saw on the news (www.wqad.com/news/local) (Not a referral!!!) that random acts of kindness are spreading. At a Starbucks coffee house, one guy started paying it forward. He paid for his own coffee, and asked the lady to let him pay for the next person's. His only request to them was to keep it going. So all day, the people have had their drinks free, and paid for the next person's drink. I think this is a great thing. A simple act of kindness, spreading out and influencing others. Have you heard any good news? I'd like the news stations to add these good things, not just all the bad stuff going on out there. Anyone else heard of the news broadcasting something good? What was it? Lighten our hearts!

That's why I don't watch the news. I am just too affected by the fact that the networks give the most air time to the worst news. It is just way too depressing for me. So, I just get the highlights from my spouse and here. I am an optimist and I'd like to keep it that way.

I'd like the news more if they'd sprinkle the good throughout. It keeps me from getting so depressed when he watches it.

I have always done random acts of kindness if I am capable, as the opportunities arise. I think it just makes the world a better place. btw: I loved that movie, too, it was wonderful!

http://payitforward.warnerbros.com/Pay_It_Forward/ Awesome movie, you'll have to rent it and see how the movement started. Apparently a fellow started the movement, wrote a book, then it was made into a movie. It really shows that one person CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Which is what I'm all about.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_it_forward My mistake, Catherine Ryan Hyde wrote the novel in 2000. And apparently Benjamin Franklin described it in 1784, thus; I do not pretend to give such a Sum; I only lend it to you. When you [...] meet with another honest Man in similar Distress, you must pay me by lending this Sum to him; enjoining him to discharge the Debt by a like operation, when he shall be able, and shall meet with another opportunity. I hope it may thus go thro' many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money.

It does, it does. It makes people happier, seeing something good or having it happen to them. There's a movie about it? Really?!

Well, they didn't exactly get their drinks free, as they were paying for the person's behind them in the queue, but the person on the very end of the queue was either quids in, or having to wait until his coffee got cold. lol. Joking aside, it's something that gives you a great feeling... not only do you pay for the person's coffee behind you, but you get to chat with somebody you possibly wouldn't have talked to otherwise. Good move to brighten up one's day! Brightest Blessings.

Yes, it must have made both the person buying and the person receiving feel good. It's important to be able to do both, and this is a perfect example of being able to both give and receive... a wonderful exercise.

True, but imagine how much good will was flowing that day? That's the important thing. That's what I'd like to be able to do, in a little way each day.

But only the last one in the chain would get a free drink all the others would be just spending the same amount of money. Or have a got it totally wrong??

But I see that's not really the point. It's the giving and receiving and actually communicating with people.

Yes. It's more about helping the next person than getting a free drink. The world needs more of that.

Interesting. What would happen if someone came in with only enough for a cheep drink and the person behind them wants an expensive one?

I really don't know. Maybe they'd give what they had, and someone else would add more? I've heard some people are adding even more money to the 'kitty' to pay for more than just what the other person ordered. They've been doing this all day, and everyone is getting into it. I just think it's great. Finally, news on good things not just the awful, murder-rich people stealing-natural disaster things like usual. It's nice to see some good things, not just the depressing ones. We need hope!

This is wonderful, you get my vote. I'll go with any positive actions I can be told about. Just something as simple as holding the door for someone or giving the shopping cart to the one behind you and then getting another for yourself. These small common kindnesses can make someone's day. Blessings

They sure do. Getting the economic stimulus bill may save jobs and all that, but it's so distant. It's hard to see it affecting yourself. But an act of kindness, that's right there. It makes you feel good, right NOW. If you do it for someone else, you and them feel better. If it's done to you, you feel good about the world for awhile. Every little thing helps.
