GAF update

Hi folks. Just wanted to pop in and give an update on GAF (that's getafreelancer.com). I've mentioned it before. No referrals or anything - it's a job-posting site for freelancers. The update is that I just landed my first freelance online (paid!) job, posting on a blog for a few weeks.
The employer immediately put the salary into escrow and has been really good with communications and everything, so I can now happily say that the site is confirmed as legit (I pretty much knew it was anyway, but this is confirmation for me). That doesn't mean all the employers are legitimate (since the site's just a third-party middle-man), but it's still good news.
And now, I should go and do my job.

Weh-Hey!, good on you for getting the job :-)
Methinks this calls for pom-pom time!

Thank you! It's nothing very big - just $30 for twenty blog entries over 20 days. But it's nice to earn something and I'm always up for a bit of your pom-poms, milady! (Haven't seen you for ages - been busy?)

Hi,
I never had that much luck with GAF. I did get one proofing/writing job for $30 but ran a mile after that. Not really my cup of Horlicks. However, I do drop by it from time to time to see if there's anything worthwhile on there.
It's great you got that gig. I look forward to a time when you'll be getting waaaay more than that.
On the subject of writing jobs, I did find one that's looking for UK and US writers. The address is us-ukreview.com. The pay looks really good too.
I don't know if you know of a site called helengrant.co.uk, but she usually lists writing jobs on her blog. On there is a post about The Guardian newspaper's website. They're looking for letters for their 'Letter To' section and are paying £100 per accepted one.
take care...

Thank you. It's a really good site for writers and all sorts of other freelancers, though the writing work is often poorly paid ($1 an article range).

Congrats on getting your first online freelancing job. True, the pay isn't a lot, but then, we all have to start somewhere.

Congrats! This is very encouraging. I have a B.S in Computer Information Systems so I am going to try bidding on Database creation jobs. The pay seems to good to be true for some of these. I hope I have good luck and get a legitimate poster as well.

Hi+
GAF is a legit. freelance site to the best of my knowledge. However the pay there is quote low. You will get a better deal on sites like Elance.com, guru.com and odesk.com
However since you have got a job, congrats and do your best. If the client is pleaseed with you, he would agree to work with you directly outside of GAF. However if that happens, there wont be the escrow facility, and it will be between you and the client, so tread carefully.
