Is learning SAS good data mining

Hi all I am planning to learn SAS for data mining. Though I now Microsoft Excel and have been using it over some time, but now the problem with excel is that if the data is too large, excel fails to handle it properly. So just to ask the knowledgeable junta as whether it would be better to learn SAS for this purpose or whether there is some other tool that I can learn for this purpose.
