What is the second amendment for?

Many people say the second amendment is all about hunting and self defense from common criminals. When I was a kid in school it seemed to me that the bill of rights was all about keeping the government from getting too powerful. I always thought the purpose of the second amendment was to enable ordinary people to fight back against the government if they needed too. I found a pretty good article that explains it. http://www.fff.org/freedom/fd0810a.asp .

I kind of agree with you, although I personally think the 2nd amendment is about being able to protect yourself from ANYONE who tries to harm you or your loved ones. *shrugs*.
