I really doesn't understand your problem, even on a desktop of 15 inch monitor the entire space for writing may be less. There is no difference between a laptop and a desktop but what it really means that presently the vision of a CRT is good than a LCD. Now at present the technology has gradually developing for LCD,previously only the straight person can view clearly but now the angle was increased to certain extent. Once you got experienced with your laptop you don't even see at your desktop because the present configuration of the Laptop is higher than a desktop and the other peripherals like card reader, hdmi port, webcam and other came along with your laptop. You have to add extra to your desktop which adds some amount to your PC. The Graphics card came with laptop is in range between 256 - 1GB, but where as desktop it is 128MB, you have to add a PCIE slot for higher graphics. Today no technology is final so if you buy a Laptop or Desktop at a certain period you have to exchange for a better one. So you buy the best one at present which is capable and flexible for your wok. Both Laptop and Desktop has both advantages and disadvantages...
