I read an article in the paper today about Lunapad, a reusable feminine hygiene product. I thought wow, what a good idea! Until I saw the price--$50.99 for 3 of them!!
They also have "Diva Cups" to catch the flow for $34.99 each.
Geez, when I was really poor and young I used old clean rags when I couldn't afford tampons or sanitary napkins...they washed up just fine and didn't cost me a thing. Now they want you to pay $16.99 each to be "green"?!! Heck, wash your old worn out socks and use those, I can't imagine anyone silly enough (or rich enough) to buy these things! The only good part is that they're pretty.
Would you pay this much for a product like this? Or would you rather just use washcloths or something if you can't afford a commercial product?

The people who make these reusable feminine products...do they not take into consideration that the risk of infection goes sky-high when you're dealing with this sort of thing? Also...the thought of going around all day wearing a cup with the flow in there...that's just disgusting. I'll stick with my Always and Tampax. :D

It would be very easy to get an infection, especially if you don't wash the pad in bleach. Women probably won't use bleach because of the pretty colors. The cup is not a pleasant thought to me, either! Thank goodness I'm done with all that! When I pass the particular aisle in the store I'm grateful I don't have to buy anything.

That's ridiculous! Buuuut, if there are consumers dumb enough to pay those prices they'll keep them set at that.
I, personally, wouldn't. I'd rather make my own toilet paper tampon than waste money on either of those products but, fortunately for me, those days are over.

Those days are over for me, too, thank goodness! I'd sooner use clean rags than pay that much! They say most of their U.S. sales are online because of distribution problems (the stores probably can't afford to buy them!) but they sell well in Canada. And I always thought Canadians were smart and thrifty!

If I couldn't afford Always, or even a cheaper version of the hygiene products, I'd rather use dishclothes. I've actually came across a "receipe" online where we could make our own products. It'd take some time and practice, but if it works. Just think of what the women from centuries ago used...

My mother and grandmother used old, clean rags with no problem. I imagine that's what women have used through the ages until Kotex came along. And before the sticky strips, they had funny little belts to hold the pad in place. Young women today would laugh at such a thing!
