Do you like to snorkel?

Hello fellow travelers, How many of you out there love to snorkel, or would be very interested to do so? The first time I did it was back in Hawaii in 2005 and I had somewhat of a bad experience. The waves were really strong that day and I went really far out, I was soon fearing for my life. I swear I thought I was going to drown. So that pretty much put me off snorkeling. Then this past October my parents came to visit me in Egypt. We all took a trip to Sharm El Sheik, which is just beautiful. We decided to take a snorkeling trip. I was scared at first but overcame my fear. I was soon in love with snorkeling. The water was so pristine, blue, and full of life. I could not believe all the colorful fish swimming right below me. The next chance I get at taking a trip I want to make sure it has a great beach to snorkel in. At the top of my list is Tahiti and Australia (a girl can dream). Anyone been somewhere really great they would recommend? Any of you lucky enough to snorkel anytime you want?

I really love to go snorkeling but I live in a cold country to so I have to fly far away for that hobby. I first time I did it was back in 1993 at Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I was amazed at seeing all the colorful coral and friendly fish. The water was so a comfortable temperature and crystal clear. I did more snorkeling in Kenya in 1997. In 2000 I took a trip to Western Australia and snorkeled the reef. Wow! I saw a manta ray and a turtle. I went in 2001 and 2002 to French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, New Zealand and Samoa. I snorkeled on that trip with black tipped sharks, sting rays and dolphins. In 2004 I went to the Seychelles and did some superb snorkeling and in 2005 I did lots of snorkeling on my trip to the Maldives. Some of the best snorkeling I did in 2006 when I went to Belize. There I snorkeled with nurse sharks and sting rays. I would so love to go to another tropical island to do some snorkeling but these days I travel with my toddler son so that wouldn't be possible.

Wow you have been to some amazing places. Belize sounds wonderful I love manta rays and would love to seem them while snorkeling. I saw one on a submarine ride, but that barely compares. Once I move back to the US Belize will probably be one of the most feasible places to go since its not to far. Thanks for the great info!

I love snorkling. there is a beach near our place, just a 10-minute walk. We can snorkel anytime we want. It is really fun and satisfying.

So you are one of those lucky ones. That's really neat, I would love to live next to a beach.

I love snorkeling too... Last time I snorkeled, the water was strong and the current was heavy. But I think to myself that I have to be get used to the current. So I just swim. I also went to the steep area and saw many fish and corals there. It was so relieving. Then on the way back I met a sea snake and two octopuses. What a snorkeling I have.

hey there...snorkeling is awesome...I love seeing all the different colored fish, and coral. I have a scuba diving certificate as well, and diving is a very relaxing hobby. I dont get out much, having two young kids, but when I do get a chance, I really enjoy it.

the first and only time to snorkel was in bohol, I an quite afraid of deep waters, the underwater scenery was breathtaking but it was a pity that i was not able to spend a little more time snorkeling, but definitely, it I have a chance to be there again, I will try to conquer my fear.

I too have been snorkelling in Egypt, OP. In Hurghada, the resort me and my family were staying at had a private, man-made beach. Near the beach was a pier for boat excursions and such. I have fond memories of me and my dad jumping into the water beneath this pier, equipped with our snorkels, in absolute awe as crowds of fish swam past our faces! We could literally reach out and grab one (though we didn't because they were just too beautiful and innocent).
