Sorry, not to make fun, except the victum this time is Peter Tork from the old TV show/group, the Monkees. Very sad really, while Mike Nesbith was probably the best trained of the foursome, Peter was rather like Harpo Marx, he could pretty much play anything you put in front of him. http://www.popeater.com/music/article/monkees-legend-peter-tork-has-cancer/369779 It does seem kind of odd that the cancer is attacking his tongue, talk about ironic. So, do you remember the Monkees? Did you ever seen them play? (yes) Did you have a favorite? (Davy Jones was very popular) Do you remember who had the most television experience? (Micky had been the circus boy) Happens that Mike was a local - grew up in Georgetown.

I am so sorry to hear this about Peter Tork. As a cancer survivor I do know he has a big battle ahead of him. I have never seen the Monkees in person but many many times on TV. I liked them all but I do admit that Davy was the cutest.

I kind of went between Davy (and he was a doll wasn't he), Micky and Mike - just depended on my mood. Yeah, I know, I was sadden to hear about this, because while he was never my favorite Monkee, I kind of felt like he might've been the most talented.

That's sad Elic. I used to tune into the Monkees on the TV when I was a boy. At least it doesn't look like it's a fatal dose.

I agree, it sounds like they might be able to keep him alive, but he might lose his tongue and that would sure effect a lot of things.

I loved The Monkees when I was young Elix - I used to love watching the tv show! I have to admit I was a bit surprised when I saw the title of this post , although I got it as soon as I started reading! xxxx

I was a little concerned about the title, but... it seems like the only OBVIOUS title. I was older when it was one, I thought it was fun, but... silly

true, and there are ways to talk again, even if he does lose it - but some things won't be possible.

That is true - it really is the only title! I think it is awful that he may lose his tongue but even if he does and it saves his life - well I know what I would prefer! xxxx

Oh that is so sad! I am so sorry to hear this news. It's hard to believe that he is 67 years old already. I was just reading about the cancer he has on his tongue and they say that the prognosis is good after surgery and radiation. Have a great day and happyt myLotting!!!

that only makes him 12 years older than me... Yeah, I was glad to read that the prognosis was good too.

I was in love with Davy Jones. If David Casidy wouldn't marry me, Davy Jones was my next choice. I still like the Monkeys music. It gives me flash backs to a simpler time. Grade school was when everything was easy and fun.

I didn't want to marry them, not my style, just wanted to play with them for a while.

Gotta remember - I was in my teens when it came on - and no, I didn't mean play with them in bed - I thought the show was cute and I wanted to join the fun!

Boys still had cooties. I didn't want to play with them. But I was in love with a few TV stars. Doesn't make sense, but that's how 8 year olds think.

I used to watch them religiously. Now I can't much remember anything about them. Very sad when the memory goes. They were almost as much fun as Laugh-In. Tv was so much better in those days... I had a favorite, but since I don't remember anything I can't tell you his name. It was the one with the funny face and the afro-type hair. He was so neat, I just liked him. But I have no idea which one he was. We all know Davy, can't forget that fresh faced boy. Was mine Mickey? This is sad, not remembering!!

Yeah, Micky - he was fun and funny. I boycotted Laugh-In when it was on because it took The Man From U.N.C.L.E. off. ONLY episode I watched had Nimoy (Mr. Spock) on it.

My sister and I used to watch the reruns faithfully. We thought they were all very funny. I don't really think I had a favorite Monkee. My mom bought us a tape of their songs and we totally wore it out. They had some excellent songs. I actually bought the CD of their greatest hits when I saw it in the store. I love Pleasant Valley Sunday, Daydream Believer, and the song about the train( I can't remember the name right now and am too lazy to get up and go look.) Poor Peter! I hope they can save his tongue.

I would say late 70's early 80's. I see them pushing that bed in the street when I try to think of a bit they did.

Last train to CLarksville, yeah, they had some good writers for their songs. When were you watching the reruns - I watched it when it was on.

As it happens, Peter Tork was my favourite. We used to have the TV show over here, and I used to watch it. The were always in some sort of silly scrape. Yes, I remember them well, and Daydream Believer still often gets played on radio stations over here. Davy Jones was Welsh, I believe... the name is certainly Welsh and I know he was British, although he picked up a bit of an American accent... only slight, but noticeable. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

The trouble is, he talks in a quite "posh" as we call it, English accent, so the accent sounds odd. None of us speaks that way any more, apart from the yuppies I guess.

Oh, I've gotta say, I can't hear it, but then again - I AM American... Its like John Barrowman's Capt Jack, we can sometimes catch words that a real American wouldn't use. Other than that - he's really good.

I remember watching the show. Then my daughters watched it years later. Did you know that one of the Monkee's mother invented liquid paper? I liked most of their songs cause they were so catchy and fun.

Mike's mom did that - in her kitchen, in Georgetown Texas - a few miles north of Austin - ya think I know about it? Ya think that I didn't know Mike was a local boy. I hear he's got a studio here in town.

Gosh, I'm really sorry to hear that. I have a hard time knowing that someone I grew up with, listened to, danced to, admired has something so horrible.

This is very sad indeed. I forgot all about the Monkees until I read this discussion. I hope he recovers and doesn't lose his tongue, etc. Poor man.

I have to say I was sad to hear that one got it, and then it had to be Peter - they always wrote him as the "sad sack" in the show.

That's too bad :( Yes, I remember the Monkees. Like many others, my favorite was always Davy Jones. I never saw them play but am familiar with their music and have seen them on tv. It's definitely strange about the tongue...

Yes, cancer sucks. I did watch the Monkeys when I was young, probably seven or so years old. I can't remember much about them now. I think Micky was the one my sister and I thought was cute or maybe it was Davy...no I think it was Micky!

I know, the title has issues, but I'm taking it from the title song of the TV show - it started "Hey! Hey! We're the Monkees!"

Oh yes, I remember them very well. The show was on the TV here in the 60's though I can't really remember to much about the TV show, that song, "Hey, Hey, We're the Monkeys" has stuck in my mind ever since. I think that they were put together in the first place as a sort of counter to the Beatles. Though I may be wrong about that, I've not bothered to do any research.

Not to counter the Beatles, to feed off the popularity of the Beatles. Since they couldn't get the Beatles to make a TV show with them, they concocted this group to make a TV show.

I used to watch them when I was younger. I'm sorry that Paul has cancer. I thought he only mouthed the words. I thought they were all fun. Strange, I don't really remember the episodes, mostly that theme song.

at first they did that, but honestly most singing on the show was that lipsynced, but they did do their own singing.

Hi Elic, I used to love the Monkees and my favourite was Davy Jone, he used to be in our saup 'Corranation Street' many years ago and its a shame for Peter Tork to have cancer on his tongue, I still got those old vinyl LPs of the Monkees records. Tamara

I used to catch him in movies and tv shows at that time playing jockeys - he was VERY believable - in fact, I think he actually did it for a while.
