A Month of Free Rent

They told me yesterday we'll have next month rent free due to having to go 3 days with no water! How nice was that? I wasn't expecting that much. We'll still have to make the payment on our house, but we won't have to pay our $300 lot rent. That will certainly help this month, we can use the money to help us settle in more (I have to buy shelving and such to help us get organized). Have you ever gotten a month free of anything for being inconvenienced?

That is great that they did the one month free lot rent for you guys for not having water for 3 days. I am sure it will really come in handy for you guys.

Well, I see my daughter was nice enough to hit post when I was in the kitchen washing some dishes. To finish what I was going to say....No, I have never gotten a free months anything before. I would not be so lucky. But, 3 days without water is not what I would consider lucky either.

The money will come in handy this month. We have to buy my boys a bunk bed to create some room, we also have to get my daughter a bed because my husband got angry at the one she had, and threw it across the house (at the old place) so that never came with us (it wouldn't fit through the doorway, and the screws were stripped so he couldn't take it apart). Plus we have our last heating bill from the old house, which is only $400 this time instead of over $600, not bad.

Ok, I am sorry, but I am laughing about him throwing the bunk beds. I would probably do something like that too. Good luck on the bunk beds thing. Maybe you can find some on craigslist or something similar to it and save some money on them too.

That is great and at the perfect time too. When we bought our house it was November and it just worked out that our mortgage payments didn't start until January. So we had December completely rent/mortgage free which was great considering it was Christmas time and both of our birthdays. I also got a month of free car insurance once but it was only because I totally forgot it had expired and drove around for an entire month with no insurance. That could've been a real mess but thankfully nothing happened.

Here in NY state it's illegal not to have car insurance. It causes loads of issues not having insurance, and it makes the cost of insurance go way up if you try to get it after not having it for awhile.

That's for certain, glad everything worked out okay.

Oh, it's illegal here too but it's one of those 'only illegal if you get caught' sort of things. As far as the insurance company knew I just parked my vehicle for the month. However if I would've been pulled over or been in an accident in that month I would have been royally screwed.

hello katsmeow that is awesome that you-all got a month's worth of free rent like that. whoo hoo! go by those shelfs. and how come that you-all will not have any running water for three days like that? thanks for sharing. you-all had better be stocking up on the water. i guess that you'll have to buy gallons of it. do you-all have somewhere to go shower or take a bath at for those three days?, like family or one of your friends house? and no i haven't ever gotten a month of free rent before anywhere that i have lived before. due from there not being water for three days or not. lol good luck to you at unpacking and getting organized like that. when your finished unpacking everything, you can come on over at my house and help me to get organized. lol Spring break is coming up here soon and i plan on starting my spring cleaning then. whoo hoo! take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

There was no water when we moved in, because the pipes were froze and they never put the insulation on them. There was a few other things not finished, and some things I'm still waiting on, like washer/dryer hook ups. They got my bathroom water working on Monday, but then Tuesday all the water was out again. They didn't finally get all the water working properly until Wednesday, so we went 3 days with no water, and almost a full week with no washer/dryer hook ups... but we're getting there!

I am so happy for you but I know how awful it must have been for you to be without water. The extra money will be great for you to get organised in your new home. I am often wiothout water when we get heavy rainfall as the spurce of our water ghets dirty. I always have at least 2 dozen large water bottles full of water to flush toilets and to bathe. and then I have a stock of drinking water too. I am allowed to use the washing machine etc at the Villa where I work when I am without water so this really helps. My last house that I rented before I bought htis one was full of leaks and the landlord would not give me a discount in rent. However this spurred me on to buy the one that I am in. My family helped me so much. Every happiness in your new house. Do your In-Laws know where you are living?

So far as I know, the in laws aren't even aware we've moved yet. We haven't spoken to them at all lately. My FIL left a message on our machine a few days before we left, but we haven't spoken to him since he was trying to borrow hubby's car.

Wow, the rental company sure is a keeper. It really isn't necessary to give you guys a free rent. I know that not having water for a day is a hardship already, so three days without it must be pure torture. But still, they could have just refunded you the rent for those three days. :) You're really lucky. Enjoy it!

you are so lucky, and your landlord is so generous too. Well i don't rent a house, so i don't have your experience. But years ago, i rent for a period, even one more day, the landlord would charge me not as he promised at the beginning that several days overdue would be ok. it doesn't matter anyway.
