What's interesting about this story is that you typically don't hear about excommunications in the USA within the Catholic Church. We tend to hear about them in countries such as Brazil or Africa. Interesting dynamics I'd say. Anora

I don't even follow the Catholic religion. I think that don't 'excommunicate' here in America because we view religion more differently. I think in places like South America, Europe, Africa, etc...they see religion as a part of life, a privilege sort of speak. Whereas Americans tend to see it as a right. Maybe I have it backwards....but I just know that some countries view many things differently than Americans. Either way, this situation is very sad.

The Church is so wrong in this! That tiny little girl could not have carried and delivered twins and it seems like that Bishop is being very cold and uncaring towards the life of this child...who is one of God's children, too. This is why the Church gets such a bad rap. They can show such cold heartedness and lack of common sense.

God is all forgiving except when the church says so. God loves the little children unless they've been raped by their step-father. This is why I question and wonder if God really wanted the things that have happened. Forgive me but that child has had enough in her life without this garbage on her shoulders.

I don't understand, does the bishop mean that the rape was a part of gods' plan? Of course it was right to give the girl an abortion. How could she possibly take care of a should. I don't even know if her body could have handled delivering the baby.
