Hi, If I say 'I am a liar', am I really liar ? I was thinking about this yesterday, and could not figure out a solution. It is like the chicken-egg dilemma, 'who came first, the chicken or the egg?'. Hope you people will help me to figure out a solution.. lol.. Happy mylotting...

After seeing your response to comment 1, I think what you meant to say was "I'm always lying".

*sighes* If your statement was "I am a liar, am I?" Then like rmorefield pointed out, there wouldn't be a paradox at all, as a liar does not have to lie all the time, causing you to have to add a couple of lines of text to retcon your original statement so that this could be the case. So, in that case, you might as well, retcon it to "I'm always lying" which would be a cleaner presentation of the paradox. *wonders why whenever he decides to post a short explanation on MyLot, he ends up having to post a long explanation explaining the explanation*

If you have never, ever told a lie in your life, then that statement would be a lie. So yes, you would be a liar. If you (like all of the rest of us) had told at least one lie, then the statement would be the truth, but you would still be a liar (just not a chronic one) due to the fact that you had told a lie at some point in your life. Bottom line is.....you would be a liar no matter what. LOL

But what if a I say that a liar always lies, he never tells truth and a truthful person never tells lies, like black and white, nothing gray. In that case, you cannot say I am a liar. And it is the only possibility to prove me not a liar.. rofl... anyway, thanks for your response, happy mylotting..

You would be a liar no matter what lol. There is an inherent paradox if you were to speak only the lies, so if you were to only be lying, the statement, 'I am a liar' would be true and since you don't speak the truth at all, it becomes a paradox. As every statement including 'I am a liar' should have been a lie in which case, it would make you a truth teller. Okay I have confused everyone enough lol There are many such paradoxial statements, The statement below is a lie The statement above is true
