I have been a member of this site for more than one month.I have to my credit, 7 articles with good ratings. But all of a sudden, they prevented me from logging on to the site saying that they are under the process of offering country specific sites !!! s it fair on their part to do so? what is your opinion?

In my opinion, it is absolutely RUDE!! They send no email notifying us of any such change, they say nothing about paying us the money we have earned over there, they show absolutely no human courtesy toward us as writers. All of a sudden, they prevent us from logging in as if we are bandits or thieves. I am annoyed. I already contacted the site. They replied but I am not satisfied with their response. They simply repeated that they will be started country-specific sites soon. But, they ought to have given us a warning, at least a word of explanation before denying us access. This is almost as if only native speaker of English are human beings who deserve respect and we can be treated like dirt. I am through with Helium dot com!! What about the content we have already submitted? I guess Helium dot com will continue making money and paying its native English writers with the fruit of our hard work!! Helium has turned out to be nothing better than a scam site. Cheers and happy Mylotting

Hi +, I understand your feelings. I have already communicated about this "rudeness" of Helium to one of the senior staff of Helium. As a one quarter year old member of Helium, I too find that Helium is becoming more and more aggressive in their decision-making process and serious concerns expressed by members in the discussion forums are not getting addressed. I have been one of the hard-core critics of Helium's lopsided policies in Helium discussion boards. However, I can assure you that Helium is definitely not a scam site, but they have become more and more calculative and money minded. They are introducing unilaterally some terms and conditions for restricting payments to members (for example the need for single rating star requirement for getting your earnings). Barring access to non-US members without any prior announcement is one of the meanest things they have done recently. When it comes to making money or conserving money in difficult economic times, I am afraid basic ethics and morality are given a go by. CVR

I think they should have set up the other sites before denying you access, especially since you have already been a member for over a month. They should also have sent you an email explaining what they were planning and asking for your patience during the transition period. Have you tried contacting them about it?

I know that Helium are looking to wikipedia for a lot of their inspiration, and so guess that country specific sites is another move in that direction. guess I am not affected as believe UK/US/Aus etc will only have one site.

It is not fair. After Asians have contributed to their sites they would suddenly do this? So what about those who are about to reach their minimum payout? It is not really fair because there are some who exerted effort posting their articles on that website just to earn money and now they were prevented from accessing their accounts?? They should've done that earlier. Just before they let people from different countries to sign up with them.

I hope this kind of "country specific sites" nonsense stop. I mean it is fair to ban writers who plagerized or reject an article that is too badly written. But to make a blanket cover ban for all writers in a specific country is too much! It does not make sense to ban any writer from a specific country. So is an Indian migrated to America considered as American writer or Indian writer?

Hi vsgunnam, I understand that Helium is blocking some specific writers from non-US countries whose writings, according to Helium, is not fitting to the standards or expectations of US readers (who are the majority visitors to Helium site). This block (or permitting entry) is now being done by identifying the IP address of the writer. If, per chance, you are now accessing Helium from a different computer than what you have all along used, please check whether you are still able to access Helium from your original computer. It looks Helium is seriously looking into the genuine concerns of the blocked members and would come out with their decisions (regarding paying the accumulated earnings) etc sooner. I also understand that the idea of region-specific Helium is not likely in the near foreseeable future. I write from India and I am a 1.25 year old member of Helium. My account so far has not been blocked. So, the ban is only selective and not across the board. It looks more of recently joined members' accounts seem to have been affected. Please wait for a few days before things get clear. CVR

Hi+ I am also from India and I would say I became addicted to Helium within 2 months of having started to write there. I managed 112 articles, many of them ranked #1. A few days ago, busy writing for one of their writing competition, I took a break of around two hours. When I returned I am greeted with the same message that others have got, and I have been logged out ever since. I contacted help@helium, and got their standard reply. I then asked some specific queries, to which I am yet to get a reply. I hope they sort this out and pay us for the work done on the 10th of next month.

Hi, vsgunnam! I am sorry that Helium is taking you through this confusion. It is not fair, but that is what some sites will do when they will only allow citizens from other countries to a their site. Maybe you can try and find another site that accept citizens for your country. I hope that that you can find one. Good Luck!

This is the latest of what I learn from a Helium Sr. executive based on my private correspondence. (1) Helium will inform such of those blocked writers whom they don't like to have as members any more, soon through e-mail. They will give you some time for you to copy back your articles (just in case you didn't have a back up) and then THEY WILL DELETE ALL YOUR articles. You are then free to post your articles at any other site that calls for original material. You will not be paid your accrued earnings earnings lying in Helium. (2) Helium thinks there are some among the blocked authors whom they feel are good enough to continue in Helium. Such of them too will be informed by e-mail. Until they communicate, such authors' past earnings and the page view accruals will continue with Helium. Once their account is reopened, the past accruals will be there for them and they can continue to write and earn subsequently. Once Helium min. 25$ is reached, they can withdraw the amount as per norms. (3) As already informed by me, there is no immediate likelihood of Helium opening separate sites for Indians, Europeans etc. It was at the best a gimmick to keep you sucking your fingers. (4) I have made a strong appeal and request to the Helium Sr executive to consider paying whatever accumulated earnings of the frustrated authors as a good will gesture (not hiding behind 25$ limit) but in all likelihood, such a decision may not come through.
