Sometimes in the midst of important seminar or lecture or maybe when someone is pouring their problems out to you ,you find it difficult to stifle a yawn.Have you faced such a situation ?What do you do then?I pinch my nose as hard as possible.Would like to know what my friends here do.

It looks really funny and awkward when we yawn, when we are not expected to. Actually, when we do not want to do anything or getting bored by some event, we yawn (subconsciously to show our disinterest in the happenings...LOL!. It happens sometimes with me too that I yawn at the wrong moments or occasion and if my better half is around, she would say - "Why are you yawning, without any reason, are you so tired....". When I was a kid and my father would teach me, I would start yawning and he would understand that I was in no mood to study, so he would pack up the things.........LOL!

Experts believe, yawning is caused due to insufficient oxygen in the lungs. Then the brain sends a signal which makes us open our mouth and yawn in order to take in as much oxygen as possible.
When I fell like yawning I take a deep breath and the yawn goes away.
Funny thing is that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawning, you also feel like yawning.

I have a really good attention span and I can pretend pretty well so I can hold off a yawn pretty good most of the times. When the seminar is boring I just drift off to my own world and would be fake listening. However when I really feel like yawning, I do try hard to fight it back, cover my mouth and there would be tears in my eyes lol. This is a fool proof plan that always works, drop a pen down, go under the table, yawn and voila problem solved

I just cover my mouth with my hand so that I can avoid people seeing me yawn. The consequences can be dangerous if you are caught yawning in seminars because you can then become a candidate of a barrage of questions.

I too agree with you, especially during long and boring lectures!
In the church too, you can observe many people yawning. I think the
brain needed more oxygen to stay alert and fresh. Yawning is a way
for our body to grasp more oxygen that we need!
I normally will drink water to stay alert or asked permission
to go to the restroom to wash my face!

I simply yawn and again do the same work which I am doing because most of the time I don't have any other option.
Like I used to yawn in my social science class at my student age, I couldn't do anything to avoid it.
I used to yawn at a boring movie in a theatre, I coldn't do anything but watch because I had paid money for it.
I used to yawn at mylot sometimes but I couldn't do anything because if I will then my brother would tease me that I don't love mylot now!
So, most of the time, I don't have an option but to do the same work!

I have a terrible experience of this. As part of our job we have to undergo refresher courses when it is require,. They are of 24 days. You know you have to attain four lectures each day of one and half hours duration. Dome lecture and resource persons are good but are either average or worst. If the session of after the lunch then you are gone.
You feel like sleeping. Yawning and yawning but no bed to embrace you. This so feel that you would forfeit 10 dollar if had been allowed to sleep for at least one hour.
