A man and his telepromter...What is Obama worth without his?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090305/pl_politico/19663 Obama cannot speak without his telepromter. Whenever he does, his speeches are very much lacking in part of what some people think is one of his best skills. Talking...of course, his talking has nothing to do with what he really means. This tells me that he knows what his intentions are but he cannot be honest. He must have a speech with all the right words...all the right lies. Then he goes back to the White House and does what he wants to do...right after he sits down to the 125 dollar a pound steak of a dinner.

Using your conclusions the same would hold true for many of our past presidents as well. Is this your contention...that none of them meant a word they said and that their intentions weren't honest because they used a TelePrompter...or before that, cue cards? Tell me, how much time should a president spend memorizing speeches instead of doing what he was elected to do?

But does he really have to use it for every little speech he gives? It's overuse IMO. And he appears to be completely lost without it.

Every little speech? Are you sure about that?

That's what people have observed. Even little introductions of new staff appointments and other small announcements. It's not just the big speeches. There I agree, he doesn't have to memorize all that stuff. But for small stuff, come on, there are things others have winged even without cue cards. It's almost like he cannot live without the teleprompter, just like the blackberry. If he is lost without the thing, he is not really such a great orator as he is appears to be. Looks like he can't give an impromptu speech and be the same person. I have seen him without the prompter during the campaign at times. It was like there was a different person there.

Peavey, excellent..Fox does some wonderful writing and the video was incredible. I am saving this one. He sounds like someone took him from the hood..put a suit on him and hoped he could wing it! And to think that people in that room voted for him. What a world we live in.

I read that article today as well, and then I saw the speech he held today. He kept looking left and right and rarely forward, rarely really into the audience. It does look kind of strange. We all know he is lost without his teleprompter, but it's ridiculous not to be able to hold one perfect even little speech without it. I somehow expected more from a Harvard law graduate.

Like we question whether or not he really was born in the USA..maybe he did not go to Harvard. He has everything hidden including his school records. When push comes to shove, who knows what we will find out. He is a realllllll treasure chest.

I was a broadcaster for almost 20 years. There is NOBODY that can deliver a coherent talk or speech without a teleprompter or cue cards. The news people use them, the comedians use them, even the people on soap operas are using them (look carefully and you'll see them reading). It's a common practice on television. Even though GWB used one, it was obvious that he couldn't read very well.
