Will I ever find a job again?

United States

Well as most of you know I have been out of work. I have been busy doing my online programs just to pay the bills and put food on the table. In between doing my online things I look for a job. The only job I have been able to find in almost a year was a fast food job that I couldn't even handle because of my bad back. So I couldn't stay there. So I am really starting to worry that I will never be able to find a job again. The new job report has really scared me and it doesn't look like anything is available around me. Do you think I will ever be able to find a job again? If not I guess I will just try to get by with my online programs. Are you out of work and worried that you will never find a job again?

I'm sorry to learn about these problems in US... Is is really this bad in US right now? It makes me cry just to think about my bf's problem right now... He's still looking for a job too and it makes me feel so helpless with me thousands of miles away from him and can't even help or comfort him... I am juggling two jobs too in my own country. eventhough we are also affected by the recession jobs here are a bit easy to get into... though they're not as high paying as in US but on our currency rate... And yes moneymommy, I'm worried really worried not for me but for the person I love so dearly... T_T

no need to thank me, moneymommy. your posting had really opened my eyes on how bad it is in your country right now and have to be more patient and understanding with my bf and his fellow americans' dilemma... I will continue praying for US' recovery. I just know He will answer our prayers... Cheer up moneymommy, keep your faith up... He will grant our wishes the more we pray and persevere to live decently... hugs to all of you there... ^_^

This credit crunch is hard for all of us, and many of us are turning to on-line activities. What I do is to focus on the here and now, after all that is all there is. There is a life lesson here for all of us. Some of us have bigger problems than others, it is true. But just like a billionaire who has lost everything he has except for say a hundred thousand dollars, would consider himself to be financially ruined. Yes, a hundred thousand dollars to someone else would be the answer to all his/her problems. So are not such problems made in the mind of the person? As a Zen practitioner, I have studied much of what Buddha and other masters have said and the most powerful thing I feel Buddha said was, "the root of suffering is in desire". He said this just after his enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Earlier in his life, he has left a life of luxury and riches to discover what life really meant. He then went from India to China to Japan teaching his discovery. Like every other great teacher, he focused on his spiritual life, and let go of concerns about acquisitions, materialism and desire. Personally, I am not at that level yet, but because of my meditation practice,I feel much stronger to accept whatever is so in the current world situation. God bless... . Derek

Yes I understand, I have been in similar situations myself during my life, yet something always seem to turn up to help. I am sorry to hear of your husband's health problems I will take him into my thoughts during my daily meditation. - Derek

I am quite content to live on the bear minimum and I really dont have any wants for material things. "the root of suffering is in desire". I do believe that is true. The only reason I would need an outside job is to cover a few extra important expenses like medical things etc. Once my husbands disability comes through I really wont need an outside job and I would be able to just consentrate on my online ambitions.

I have been doing a variety of online activities to make money, and I dont know about going back to work. I think I might sometime, but right now, it doesnt seem to be possible. I like working at home and would like to make that the focus of what I am looking for. It is pretty interesting to be able to do that.

I'm sorry your job hunting hasn't been more successful. It's very scary out there right now. I actually got "fired" from my job because I was having a baby. They didn't want to pay me maternity leave or even allow me some time off after the baby so I lost my job the day my daughter was born. I have constantly looked for something to do and its very little. I was working in an office so I was looking into going back to that and no one is hiring. If they are hiring its for minimum pay which I could do but it makes it pointless when I have to pay for daycare for my daughter. My fiance even asked a guy at Walmart (Which I use to work at and they ALWAYS hired) if they were hiring and he just laughed and said "hell no we aren't hiring". Times are going to get bad...

Thank You! Hey it happens that the great thing about where I live. They don't have any protection for those who are pregnant. It's whatever. I look at it as a great oppurtunity for me to spend time with my daughter. =]

I know how you feel. I am in the same position. I now have a temp job. I started January 23, and it helps. I am really worried. I don't what your background is, but how about trying to substitute teach. I do that to help with the bills. It's not much, but every little bit help. I really think the answer to my situation is to become self employed. I just need some money to get started.

I've been out of work for a long time now. It was actually my choice. I chose to be a housewife to personally take care of my kids. Don't lose hope. I'm sure that a good job opportunity will come to you soon. Just continue looking and applying for jobs. And your patience will be rewarded soon.

i am actually quite fortunate because i have a pretty good job with a non profit organization which is exceedingly busy but my hubby tried for at least a year to get a job in his chosen field but failed. he has reverted back to bookkeeping which he trained for in college some 20 years ago but at least it pays bills.

Thankfully, I do have a job. It isn't a great one but it gets us by. That is awesome that you are able to earn enough on line to at least pay bills and get food. I know the job market is really tight right now. I have so many friends who have lost their jobs and there is virtually nothing out there except for like you said, fast foods or possibly store clerks. My daughter did just get a job in the mail room at a large insurance company that pays quite well. Would office work of that sort be something you could do? Good luck moneymommy. I'm sure you will find something...it just may take some time. Don't get discouraged.

I am lucky that I have been able to make enough money to cover the main expenses. Yes an office job or mail room would be perfect for me.

I'm sure that you'll get back to work as soon as you can. Now would be the perfect time to start your own business. If you have the resources and something that people would want. If that's not in the cards, just do what you can to make things work until you can get back to work. Something will come along the way that will be just right for you. My husband isn't working right now, so it's been a stuggle to make ends meet. I know that eventually he'll get a job. It's just a matter of waiting until then. However, until that event occurs, he gets to stay home and watch the kids while I'm at work.

I am always think of ideas on what kind of business I could start. I do believe this would be the best time to start something up like that since I do have a lot of time on my hands.

I am out of work. I lost my job in December 2008, I am without health insurance. I don't know if either of us will find another decent job. I live in a very small town. And there just isn't any more jobs. The main source of income or work here was factories, and they have closed their doors. Kia is building a new automobile production site here but, it isn't finished yet people from miles away are applying for these job. Whenever a job is available or they are taking application the number of people that are in line for it makes the headline news.

The more I read you, the more I want to know what online jobs you do and how they make you money.... I'm doing something wrong I know I am. I'm not even looking and neither is hubby. He could use something closer to home (He travels 45 minutes one way) but they work with our therapies and such Besides to find something different in his field is near on impossible. I hope you find what you need. But not something that will cost you more then it makes you. If I go to work and try to find someone to sit with my kids... forget it. Not worth the cost.

I'm stay at home partly by choice, and partly because of the market lol. I looked at not having a teaching post as a sign I could stay home and have fun with my kiddos. However, I don't worry that work won't be there when I get serious and look. I'm just waiting on my certification to be completed and then I will be able to give the market a serious look. I suppose finding a job is really a matter of what area you are looking at, what the demand is, and if you are able to sell yourself enough to get that interview. Some tips I've picked up along the way are to send follow up notes/calls to those places you've placed interviews with, or applications with. Let them know you are very interested in working for them. The other thing is to flood the market with your resume. You can even try finding online networks online to place your resume up on. I have my CV on several teaching sites so I get notifications daily on who is hiring. Good luck-It will all work out as it should. Namaste-Anora
