You know something that I hate? Boring plain answering machine msg's. Recently I have noticed more and more people changing around there msgs to keep them fresh and up to date. There are many websites that have .wav files that can be used to record onto your machine. They range from tv show- animal sounds- funny- mean- nice- movies- famous voices. They are all pretty good.
Do you have a plain answering machine message? Are you going to look into the sites and find one you like and try it out? Do you already change your msg to funny things or something that is pre recorded?
Does anyone you know have a good gut busting message on their machine?

My voice mail message is quite plain. It is short, sweet and to the point. I don't care to have an "up-to-date" message on my voice mail, many of my clients call my cell phone to leave me messages, and I think it would be vry unproffessional of me to have any other message than the one I have.

Mine used to say "hi, you've reached Paula and I know that you all hate these machines but I just can't come to the phone right now, so you're going to have to leave me a message whether you like it or not. And when I get around to it, I'll think about calling you back."
But, I'm job hunting right now, and felt like the message was a little unprofessional, so I changed it to something more generic...at least for now!

Personally I hate Boring messages as well. Makes me wonder how come they cannot spice it up a little and change it around. I have heard many that might sing something, like I used too, or play a Theme song from a TV show or movie, or just come up with some interesting thoughts or ways to get someone interested in wanting to leave a message.

but it made people really angry so I had to change it, lol

The one I put on my voicemail for the home phone is pretty basic. It doesn't give our names, it says we can't answer right now and encourages callers to leave a name and number and message (or we won't return the call) and after that it states that if you are a telemarketer or don't know who you are calling to hang up immediately.
The reason I had to be so blunt and mean is that despite being on the national do-not-call list, we still get telemarketing calls and wrong numbers. The reason I don't give our names on the message is that I expect anybody who calls me to have an actual reason to call me - meaning you should know who you are calling before you dial my number. If you don't, then you don't actually have business calling me, do you? I got so many robocalls during the political rush and I get them too from video stores, pizza places, just to name a few.
I think I will record a new message for my cell phone since it's only mine, so being funny and creative on there would be a smart idea. My best previous message for callers was the one I made when I lived alone in an apartment.... it said ...
BEEP! You have reached my machine because *I* am out having a life! You know what to do, I'll call ya back! One of my friends thought it was SOOOO mean but I didn't have a cell back then so it was honest!

we dont have answering machines, so when i answer the phone i say (and i translate because it's in the native tongue) "you've reached the house of the pretty, this is the prettiest speaking, what can i do for you?" yes, i've had (empty) threats out of that.
but my favorite so far was "bridget jones, wanton s*x goddess.."

There's one that my mom used when my sister and I were kids. We had gotten our first answering machine and we wanted something different. We had been joking around when my sister said one that would catch anyone off guard, especially when messages were so basic back then. It started off with something like, Hi you have reached the blank residence...NOW WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT?!? Yep, she yelled that last part to really throw people off! LOL All three of us busted up laughing when we heard the playback on the machine. My mom thought it was so funny, that she used it as the machine's message for a while.
Nowadays I just use the robotic voice that came with my machine. Boring, I know, but it gets the job done.
