I get home from work today after a nine hour shift & visiting my best friends new baby. My husband checks his pager, He's on call this weekend, from Friday to Monday. We chatted about my friend & the new baby. I went upstairs got changed, played with our 1 yr old before getting her ready for bed. Whilst I'm doing this my husband is cooking dinner, so it is ready when the little one is in bed. I pop her to bed, the eldest daughter is absorbed in MSN & I wait patiently as he begins to put it out into bowls, we had pasta. I hear this noise and jump 3 feet in the air before realising it's his pager going off, he rushes in checks it, steals a bit of garlic bread and out the door!!! 10 minutes later and he would have had his dinner with us but instead missed out after cooking it!! And it was delicious!! I hate it when his pager goes off at the wrong time, unfortunately it is not optional & he does get a bonus for it. Does your wife, husband or partner have to be on call & how do you feel when it goes off?? MrsL x

My husband has lived on call for 3 years now. He drives a hot shot truck, what that means is that when an oil rig needs a part the company calls him and he drops everything and takes it to them. Some times the part could fit in my purse and sometimes it needs a 40 foot trailer. I can be very annoying because we try to live a normal life, like go to the movies or out to eat, and even visit friends, but I can't count the nuber of times we will arive somewhere just to have to leave so he can go to work. It is kind of cool sometimes though because the company that he works for lets me ride with him so if I do not have to go to work or school then I can go. we have been to Colorado several times and Wyoming, Louisiana, and all over New Mexico. One year we had to spend the 4th of July in Corpus Christy on the beach while we waited for the return haul to be ready. So sad. :) It has its ups and downs. The next job he has he will not be on call, he want garunteed time off. Have a great day.
