Toe Nail Fungus and Elevated White Blood Cell Count

I had a blood test to check for diabetes type 2 and it checked out to be OK however as the white blood cell count is slightly elevated( 11.6) and the only infection I know I have is pretty severe toenail fungus (onymycosis). I have to return in one month for another blood test but as the doctor mentioned leukemia I am scared to death. Does anyone know of nail fungus elevating white blood cell count?

Infections of any type can raise your white cell count. I have a chronic ear infection and alway test for a high white blood cell count. It was a bit irresponsible of the doctor to mention leukemia, without advising you that there are thousands of reasons why your white cell count might be elevated. And yes, your body would increase the white cells to fight off fungus as well.

You may want to try to consider nail fungus treatment before going back to the doctor. Once you do that, check you white blood cell count again to see if it has been returned to normal count

I just had my Blood work done, I had to go to the Doctor the other day, I came home today and I get a phone call from the Nurse I am so scare I think something is wrong, so I called and she told me the Doctor said my Blood Count was low, I kind of knew that because I am an Animic. She said the Doctor wants me to get some more Iron pills. About your Toe Nail Fungus, If I were you I would soak my feet in soe diluted Bleach, I bet that would tske care of it, and rinse you feet off very good so the Bleach doesn't eat into you skin, I hope you don't have Leu.

Any type of infection can raise your white cell count whiteheather honey , my Niamhs white cell count is constantly very high and they think it is due to the number of UTI's she has suffered already. It makes me angry that a doctor would mention something like leukaemia to you and then rather than reassure you etc would leave you to worry for a month. I know that you must be terrified but please try not to worry too much honey. Keeping you in my prayers! xxx

Hello Sweets I believe that all infections will increase the white count due to the cells going into fight mode when they detact an outbreak kind of like gathering their little army to fight the battle againt the infection...don't get nervous until necessary. You are most likly A-OK.. xoxxoxoxoxoxo

I hope and pray it's not leukemia. That's one heck of a blow if it is. Are you on antibiotics? If it's not leukemia, antibiotics should put your white count down to normal. You could have any sort of infection that would cause your white count to go up.
