Some salt the watermelons as salt brings out the sweetness, i have not tried it yet because it sounds odd to me as the fruit already is very sweet...how does a salted waterlon taste?

hello sharay Salted watermelon - yucky or yummy? salt on a piece of watermelon is delicious. the salt makes the watermelon have lots more flavor to it, and if you like the salt shaker, then you will love salt on watermelon. try it the next time that you have some watermelon. it is delicious. i also like to salt cantulope. (i hope that i spelt that correctly). and salt on an apple is also very tasty. and sugar on fruit like blueberries, apples and strawberries is also delicious. grapes are delicious dipped in sugar, and they might even be good coated with salt as well. well let us all know around here at Mylot if you ever do decide to try putting salt on your watermelon and if you liked it or not. take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

I like salt shakers very much, i have around seven shalt and pepper shakers though not use them, other than one of course, i like to collect them...i actually sometimes put sugar over the watermelons when they are not that sweet and have not tried adding salt or sugar any other fruits other than guava, that is the only fruit i sprinkle salt on...but i am sure going to try salted watermelon today itself for i have the habit of having watermelons invariably everyday during summer months...will let you as soon as i eat one

salt with watermelon ,i didn;t try upto now .but my friend said that , When salt is added to food it opens the taste buds so that they can absorb the flavor, or the sweetness of the watermelon.so i want to make a try salt on watermelon. my friend also told that she sprinkles lemon juice on watermelon .i should also try this.i hope both salt and lemon juice will be good on watermelon. but i don;t those will be yucky. may be it will be yummy i think .next time when i bring watermelon,i will make a try on salt.

I enjoy watermelon both with & without salt. It is common practice to add black saltto refrigerated fruits. This prevents childred from catching cold.

hmm i haven't tried that but i could somehow imagine the taste and i don't seem to apprecriate the blending of the salt and sweetness. not for watermelons. but i love to do that to ripe mangoes that are not too sweet.

i have heard that we can add salt to soem fruits, but to watermelon is quite strangte because it already is very sweet, why add more sweet to it, moreover i tried it and was not that tasty

I've always added salt to my watermelon. It does bring out the sweetness. It especially works if the watermelon lacks in the sweetness department. My grandfather was an Eastern shore boy from Mayland and he taight me to eat watermelon that way. It does work. DCMerkle

The purpose of salt is to bring out the flavours in food. It does the same to watermelon too. I enjoy watermelon both with & without salt. It is common practice to add black salt to refrigerated fruits. This prevents children from catching cold.

I have no word to describe it. But some people do like salted watermelon. Every time they must sprinkle some salt to the fruit, before they put them on to their mounth. They found it yummy, and what I can about it?

I used to salt my watermelon when I was younger because that's the way my parents used to eat it. I no longer salt the melon. I don't need any added salt in my diet.

As many people have already said on here it just enhances the flavor. It may sound weird but you put salt in a lot of things that are sweet to bring out flavors. Ie. cakes, brownies, etc. I don't personally care for watermelon but my hubby does and he puts salt on his too.

Me likey! I learned this trick from my dad. He puts salt on all kinds of fruit cantelope, apples, and pears! It has that sweet/savory flavor. It might also be a "okie" thing because he is from Oklahoma and come to think of it, all of my aunts and uncles do the same thing.

I've never salted my watermelon...I love it but I just eat it plain. It is one of my favorite fruits in the summertime. It is so refreshing and light. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~
