Do you assume that a person who has a shortened name, is legally the longer form? For instance, take a person named Greg, do you assume that for legal sakes they are Gregory? Have you ever called someone with the long form of their name, assuming that that is their legal name? Did they get offended? I think that people automatically assume that a person who goes by a shortened form of a name is legally regarded as the longer form.
I have to say that I only assume so but will use whatever I feel comfortable, as well as they feel comfortable with me calling them.

No i do not assume that their name is different from what they are called, My husbands legal name is billy, he does not like it if people call him bill, or William, because that is not his name. And for the people that use a shortened version use it because they like it better, so i just call them by the name that they use. also i know a lot of people that go by nick names that have nothing to do with their legal names, and that is what we call them.

This is a pretty good discussion baby and I am sure that a lot of people think that someone with a shortened name,has a longer name that they legally use,and then I am sure that there are probably people who think that some people have a shortened name and that is also they name they use legally,and I can understand the opinions of both sides,and I do not always assume that someone with a shortened name has a longer form for legal things,but sometimes I do wonder about it,I think there might have been a couple times where I have called someone with a shortened name by a longer name,I do not think that they got offended if that was not their name I think they just told me that there shortened name is their legal name,and I will usually call a person by whatever they want me to call them by,just like when it comes to me I usually shortened name,but people can call me by my shortened name or my longer name that I use legally,I love you with all my heart and soul,have a great day,good luck with all your mylotting,and Happy Posting.
