OUCH!!! Does This Ever Happen To Anyone Else?

I read something on line that made me laugh so hard, I almost choked. I also suffer from acid reflux, so you can guess what else was coming up when I was laughing really hard. For whatever reason my gag reflux kicked in and I took some of the nasty asid down my throat, and OH WAS THAT PAINFUL!!! Not just a matter of swallowing a bit of water down the windpipe by accident and coughing, this was acid down the throat, and the feeling I had was like the WORST sore throat I've ever had in my life, worse than the ones I get that I know signal the beginning of a cold. I had tears in my eyes. I went and drank a bit of water and that didn't help. Then I got a bright idea. I remembered how, when I was sick, warm thick liquids going down helped me immensely. I went out into the kitchen and ate a leftover meatball out of the crockpot. Walker made some DELICIOUS Thai meatballs in peanut sauce for dinner, and there were almost a dozen left in the crockpot. First I forked up some of the rich sauce and let it slide down, and it helped quite a bit. Then I ate one of the delicious big meatballs. Not only did that seem to take care of the rest of the pain, but it sure cheered me up after that annoying situation. Does this ever happen to anyone else? What do you do about the problem?

Hello Danish! Sorry, I have never experienced the problem you have mentioned here but wanted to stop by here as I am concerned still.... How long were those meatballs and sauce in the Crock pot? I took a food handling course and any left over food must be refrigerated immediately and then Heated up and eaten immediately...Re-heat only once after that throw out the remainder if un-eaten at that time to prevent food-borne illness! Hope this helps and sorry for going off topic but I am just concerned is all! ~Heavens~

They were technically still cooking because I kept the crockpot on slow cook. There was more than enough sauce so that they didn't dry out. This morning I will store them in the refrigerator so that they can be microwaved when we get hungry again.

Fortunately, I don't get acid reflux, but I will get indigestion and especially painful gas (like colic in a baby). I rarely will take medication and when I do, it's just pepto bismol. Water usually makes that worse, but I will drink a glass of chocolate milk.

I've often heard that milk helps with a lot of these things.... It is good to see to see that Danish has such a great husband! ~Heavens~

I have Asthma, allergies, acid reflux, a plantar wart from Hell, and all kinds of problems. Acid reflux is just one of those many things that I have to take medicines for every now and then.

I take Gaviscon liquid. It is specifically for acid reflex and it works well. I do't like the mit one, I buy fruit flavored and it's easy to take. It's a very thick liquid and eeds shaking each time before taking it.

Due to having fibromyalgia and cfs I sometime choke on my own silivia or drinking liquids. I do know what you mean. I find that a small bit of honey on the tip of a spoons will soothe my throat nicely..but those meatballs sound devine.. would you want to lend your hubby for my chef this evening? I promise I will be hands off except for a hug to be brought back to you Doll. Do we have a deal? lol oxoxoxxoxo

I have acid reflux too... I finally got a doctor to tell me the basicis in common terms instead of medical lingo - acid reflux is not cause by what you are eating, but by what's eating you!! Granted there are times something you eat might set it off due to the spiceness or soemthing like that, but generallyspeaking, it's whats eating at you that causes the acid to rile up...then it starts eating on your stomach lining or throat...so you have it give it something to eat on instead of eating on your insides... I used to down about ha;f a loaf of white bread and it'd finally stop... and eat on the bread instead of me! But laughing.. haven't heard of that starting it, but then again its been along time since I have read something so funny that it made me laugh to hard!!! Just keep those meatballs handy!!

it has happened to me a few times but it has never been as bad as you described though. Sometimes believe it or not if you take some vinegar it takes it away, it dilutes the acid.
