Anyone have any tips for someone who just had gallbladder removal surgery?

I had surgery last Sunday morning and was released that evening from being rushed to the Er Friday night with pain in my right upper abdomen. I first thought it was gas when it started at 2 a.m. But by 5 p.m. I thought I was having a heart attack. Guess I had a walnut sized gall stone stuck in the duct going to my gallbladder and had to have it removed. They did it laparoscopicly. So I am actually feeling much better today. But they didn't really give me much advice on what life would be like now without it. I noticed foods taste a bit different now and was wondering if that was from surgery or the tube down my throat?

Well I hope you don't have to go threw it either. It is not a difficult surgery but you will be bruised all over your torso for a few days, and please do take it easy. Trust me I tried to overdue it and it was not good. Anyway to answer you. Yes I am quite well now. I should probably be on some sort of diet and supplements but I am not. Nothing has changed much since I had it removed. I will worn you though and not to be nasty, but you will find that after the gallbladder is removed, using the restroom will become more often if you eat anything with the least little bit of grease. And I do not mean number one. Keep me posted and I wish you luck.

I know what you mean about jumping into something, but I had gallstones prior to this too and let it go. Then I felt like I was having a heart attack and trust me the pain is really bad. One gallstone got stuck and that was so painful it is not even funny. I wish you the best of luck and I will try out your suggestions.

I had a HIDA scan today and it showed a 21% of ejection which is below normal. they want it out but in the end it really is up to me i guess. i don't know what to do but i'm not jumping into anything as i'm not in any kind of pain. i just have gallstones but anyway, you should try and get some digestive enzymes and maybe extra fiber. the enzymes will make it easier for you to digest fats and should help with the bathroom part as well as the fiber... which is funny, you'd think adding extra fiber would "make" you go but i think when you don't have a gallbladder it works differently and instead it helps you have firmer stools.

Ok Sweetie you know I had mine removed last Year, with me it is a bit different because of my Illness, as I was kept in 2 Days but when I got out I was not allowed to drive, lift heavy, do a lot Obviously like with any Operation you do not lift heavy or overdo Unfortunatly for me I have problems now and have had since it was removed so I am under a Gastric Consultant right now at the moment they are working on stopping certain things which has worked with the Meds I am on, they where hoping the Pain would go to on my right side but it has not yet I am back there in September and if the Pain is still there, further Tests will be done As for the Food tasting different yes that would have been from the tube, I hope it tastes better now I didn't know you had been in Hospital Sweetie Hugs to you

They ahd to keep me for two days before they could do the surgery because I had a horrible infection for the gallstone that was stuct and had been for quite a while. Yes around the end of Feb,to the beginning of March I was in the hospital. I think you were sick around the same time. I am so sorry to hear of your pain still. I pray for you often Gabs.
