Parents, Watch Out for the Hand Sanitizer!!!

I do my best to watch The Doctors pretty much every day...especially those days they advertise something that sounds interesting. Today was the New Drugs Children are Now Using. They showed how easy it is for children to get the recipe from the internet to make Meth with common household products. When they did the search, over 3 million hits came up. They showed how to make a Vodka Bong using dry ice, Vodka & a Travel Mug. They put a piece of dry ice in the mug, add the Vodka until the ice starts to smoke, then they put the lid on the Travel Mug & the hole in the lid is like a chimney & the kids snort the fumes. These fumes kill their brain cells rapidly & causes them to freak out. The other one that most parents miss because they don't know it exists is eating hand sanitizer. The sanitizer is 60% alcohol which makes it 120 proof. The girl they showed using it began to scream wildly as she got her buzz from suddenly being drunk. They say the sanitizer has a pleasant taste to it so the kids have no reason to stop. Even elementary school kids are using this method to get high. Some have died from alcohol poisoning. The other shocker is that drug dealers are selling pot, Coke & Meth in wrappers similar to Pop Tarts & candy wrappers which are things parents wouldn't even notice even if they did see them in their child's book bag. Do you know any children who have resorted to such methods??? Has your child been acting very strange lately??? Would you recognize the warning signs if you saw them???

Yes, all of these caught me off guard. I sometimes wonder who & WHY the first person thought to attempt whatever the first time.

I taped this yesterday as I didnt have time to watch it and I was very interested in what they had to say... I havent seen it yet but just the beginning of the show scared me to what was to come on the show. I have a son that just started kindergarten and I plan to be very active in his school and I will be on top of what he has in his backpack and keep on top of everything as we grow.... I will keep an open talk policy with him and my daughter --granted she is only 1 but this is something I will make important in our household. it is so scary to think about how they are trying to get the younger kids... that scares me so much for the future.

That was my purpose of sharing this information. There are a lot of good kids out there who get trapped simply because their parents didn't know!!!

Hi LadyM, So why is it on the tv showing how to make them? it is just encuraging kids to make them at home, I think its terrible what kids are up to and the school should really keep a eye out for the users and the sellers Tamara

Hi tamara... This show is on during school hours here so few kids should have been home watching it. Most of the kids already know how to do this or it wouldn't be a problem. They learn it from their friends. So I do believe the parents should realize what the kids are doing so they know what to be watching out for!!!The kids have the upper hand if the parents have NO clue!!! I remember when the kids got away riding around smoking pot because the cops had no idea what they were smelling. Today, the cops smell it 100 yards away. Ignorance will NOT help stop the problem!!!

It surely amazes me on what they will next come up with to get that high from. I can't see the point of it though. You have to sit and wonder why these kids have tried this, what made them go. Gosh, I wonder if I can get high off of sniffing this, or if i drink this what would happen. What possessed them to think of that? Thanks for sharing this information.

You know, I have to wonder how much of this kids are really doing and how much of this we are inventing for kids to do. Because quite frankly, if kids didn't know before your post or this "show", they know now by reading this because you just outlined how to do it. It's scary how much our kids have access to today, but I feel if parents didn't let their children roam the internet without them, knew their friends, etc this wouldn't be a problem. It's called parenting. Namaste-Anora
