Hello Mylotters! I just can't let the day pass without sharing to you my emotion of happiness when my 15-year old son just gave me his advanced birthday gift to me when in fact my birthday will still be on the 7th of April..he bought me a pair of Havaianas flip flops!!! The most touching part of this all my friends is, the money he used to buy such expensive pair was from his award money for being a finalist in a local tennis tournament just recently concluded...I'm really so touched because I thought he could have used the money for some personal stuffs instead of thinking very advance about my birthday. Please share your happiness with me!

You have done a good job raising your son if he thought of you when he got that money. Many kids wouldn't have given your birthday a second thought. He just couldn't wait to give them to you, huh? My kids are the same way! Or were, till they grew up and I moved away. Anyway, you've done a wonderful job on that boy and congrats on his tennis victory!

I understand the reason of your happiness. It is always a joy when our kids give us presents, more so when we know that a "sacrifice" from the giver was made The first thing that I remembered while I was reading your discussion, about receiving something from my kids, and there had been many gifts from the two of them, was the first year my youngest son had a job. He started work about May that year, a month after graduation from college. We had planned a 1-week family vacation in my husband's home province, all four of us,during the Christmas vacation till after New Year's day. That Christmas my son handed us his first ever Christmas bonus, the whole P20,000!

WoW, just truly amazing! The act was so remarkable to think that seldom these days that male youngsters would be that selfless for their folks.

well, my child is only three years old. but still, i want to share with you this story i read somewhere that goes like this: it was about to be christmas in a few weeks time and this woman lost her husband in an accident. she was left with two sons. a nine year old and a two year old boy. this woman was so devastated not only for herself but for her two young sons. however, she still went about putting up the christmas tree and buying the presents to be put under the tree for her two boys. christmas eve came and as was the tradition she woke up her sons. as she set to give out her nine year old son's gift he handed her a crudely made envelope from a plain white paper. when she opened it she found a 20 dollar bill. you see, her husband would always give her a check on christmas and would always tell her to get something for herself. her eldest nine year old son remembered this and did what his father would've done had he been alive. (am crying as i write this. i cried when i read it. send me for an acting part and make me think about this and let's see if kate winslet would still get a shot at next year's oscars.) ;)

That was truly a touching story! It pretty much implies that no matter how we hide things or events in our lives at home, kids have really ways of learning and discovering them! Thanks for the response!

Maybe he wants something really nice for his birthday. ;). But thats nice of him, i'm just curious... why give you a present when your birthday is in a little less than a month? Why so soon? That was nice of him though.

That was a noble and thoughful gesture of your son, and I hope and pray you wear them and think of him while you do. It's nice to get gifts from our kids and they think of us and give from the heart. Wear them well.

Hi there! Advance happy birthday! That's really sweet. I think that it's great that your son thinks of something like that. And it's also from his own hard-earned money which makes the gift even more special. I am aware of how much a pair of those flip-flops cost and it just shows how much your son love and value you as his mom.

Wow !!! that was so sweet of your son ! If I would be on your shoes, I would feel the same with what you have experienced right now, I think you have raise a good kid you know, its rare for kids these days to give something for their parents. You must be very proud of him, hmm I just have a thought though in mind, maybe he wanted something eh ? hehehe. But the fact remains, he made a great move that truly touches any parent like you do ! Hugs.

Thanks torchablazed for sharing! Maybe he was being thankful because I allowed him a brief mall tour by himself? Well, no matter what, the act was truly wonderful!

i can see that your son is truly very thoughtful of you, his mother. your son must be very much attached to you. thus, he loves you so much. he much have felt so much love and care from you. children who are recipients of real loving care from their parents, couldn't help themselves but feel how lucky they are! this feeling of deep gratitude and happiness was what moved your son to constantly think of ways to make you feel happy and very much wanted. i believe that this is the main thought that your son wants you to have. that's why when he got hold of sufficient amount to buy you that gift, he bought without regard for the cost...something which will strike you with all the love that he has deep inside him for you. i am so glad that you are overjoyed to have received that gift. how i wish that during those days when i used to buy my mom some gifts, she felt that way, too. at this time, i furnish my mom with food supplements so as to lengthen her life. i love my mom so much. this is the reason why i feel the way your son feels for you. be happy and take good care of yourself. your chidren love you so much beyond the description and measure of words.
