Has recession affected you?

Recession has affected the entire world and some companies have gone "sneakers up" in the process. Has recession affected you personally? How has it affected you? What changes have you made in your lifestyle as a result of this? I have my job intact so far but I am no longer sure if I would be holding it for long. I wasn't planning to stay working in the same company for a long time as I have plans to further my education and I think its the right time to do so. I have controlled my splurging and started to save a lot more and not taking much risks in terms of investments. What about you?

yes it did... actually since my contract had finished in our comapany, I was given the choice to sign another contract but without the contributions of our company to my compulsary government benefits or to resign entirely. another thing is that if I choose to sign another contract there will be less 2 grand from my original salary. It's a hard decision to make. nowadays, the only open companies in my country are mostly BPOs or call centers. I've been there and it just worsened my insomnia and I got this trauma on too many irate callers who don't even know how to screen their foul languages and rude behaviors. Even a person as patient and understanding as I am, I am still human and I am not the one who's responsible for their problems and just there to try to help them out. But I do know how frustrating it is to encounter so many problems on the products you thought are of good quality though... lol... anyhow, I had experienced a nervous breakdown once for being called "f***ing du*b id**t" when i had just given my opening spill lol... it's a traumatic thing for me cuz I'm a smart person and I've been to one of the most pretigious and toughest state colleges in my country lol.. no bragging nor kidding... =P anywayz, I chose the former since a job is a job and it can put food on the table and still help my family lol... I hate being put down to a mere service provider with no benefits from the company and the only compensation I have is I can surf freely through the internet which most companies don't allow employees to do... So, here I am... 2 grand less and no benefits just because of the worldwide economic crisis... I just hope that our countries will be able to recover this year... Hugs to all who had lost their jobs and those who are trying to hold onto their jobs but are still on the edge... I'm always praying that this crisis will end sooner... xox...

I know it is quite sad how the world is turning. I do have friends in the call centres and some of them face the same situations as well. I work as a software engineer and I have seen an increase in workload and the job cuttings are on a roll. I hope you manage things well and All the best to you *hugs*

IT has taken a hit as well especially in the place that I live in. But the requirement for IT is always there. I don't know how immune IT given the present situation though. I am planning to do an MBA soon. Hope things work out with us. Let's be positive.

yeah, exactly sniff sniff... but I am still positively hoping this crisis will eand soon... I was thinking of enrolling on IT course this year but my salary won't be able to cover the tuition so I just let it pass. I wanted to divert to IT instead of what I had in college. I took up engineering but it's agricultural eng'g and technology... they take up mostly guys in companies when it comes to jobs related to my course. that's why i kinda thought I'd take up IT since gender issues doesn't come up and it's in demand in the job market now and will still be in the future. hee hee

Hello,Nikky! The economic crisis has left no countries and people. It has snatched out the smile from everybody's face all over the world. It has become difficult to manage day to day affairs with the scanty income.Every month I am forced to revise my budgetary provision.I am now managing with necessities only and postpone expenditures on clothing and footwear.thanx.

Hi, nikky28! Recession has been affecting me before they even came out with the word recession! As of now, I don't work. And I am sure if I was to go out there and get a job, I know that it would be a struggle. But yes, as far as getting assistance from my hometown then yes, it is a problem.. I just hope that it ends really soon, we all do! Paying taxes is kicking my behind too! I wished they would lower it to 6% as they were doing before.. Some say that the recession may never end, but I believe that my recession has been going on for many years..

Aw *hugs* Things will work out soon. Everyone is in a bad shape and it could get spiralling down if it continues, so your government will do something about it. I hope they do it soon though. There might be jobs out there that are decent enough. I know it could be a struggle especially in these times, but I think it is worth trying. Maximise your options and I think that in these times the only thing that we can afford to put is effort.

Yeah, i think this recession has affected me a lot. 3 years ago when i just graduated from college it was very easy for me to get some decent jobs, even there are few companies that offered a job for me, by recommendation of my university. Long story short i had to look after my moms was gravely sick and hospitalized in the middle of July so i have to abandon my jobs to look after her. Suddenly the recession coming just after i finished my job as a kid. Without jobs for 8 months, can you believe it. Personally i think we should pray and ask God for a better future.

Yes I can believe it. I know its tough for someone who wants to start now afresh more than ever. It is also tough for the people who are working. And the matters will get somewhat worse before it starts getting up again. I just hope that it begins to stabilize and look upward really soon. Keep trying and I am sure you will get a job. All the best to you.

The recession has nothing on me. I am so poor that neither prosperity nor recession has any effect on me. I just lost a job which just gives me an allowance and I am so used to being poor that I don't really care. Cheers!!

As long as you don't care nothing matters! It is a great attitude. I see people rushing and stressing themself out, ripping other people off, steping over them to get ahead in the rat race, it becomes a mad mad world. And one day they all die without having lived a life only to realise when it is too late. I think poverty gives an opportunity to look deep within oneself and feel good about yourself for living a life than rushing mad in search of god knows what cos I am sure money isn't the answer to happiness.

I have cut my spending as well. I now take my lunch from home instead of buying it from a fast food place. I have also cut my expenses by getting rid of the car that I owed money on and instead stepping down into an older car that is paid for. I dont think that my job will be around for ever and I like you are looking to further my education. I have also started to apply for grants and scholarships to help with getting me educated. LOL. I have also noticed that people are going out a lot less now adays as well. I guess that people are just sitting tight and holding on to there money rather than spending it like before. As for investing not even on a good day would I invest in any company right now. I am gonna wait to see how this situation plays out just a little longer before I go and stick my money into a failling system.

Yes it has affected us, we are in the construction business and because a lot of the building is not going on right now things are really getting tight. we have not done anything since October, and we have just about gone through our savings. we have been in this business for about 35 years and this is the first time we have gone this long with out doing anything. we have cut out a few things like our cell phones, we just kept the house phone, and we dropped the cable down to just the basic. and cut out all the movie channels. we take the motorcycle out as much as we can to save on gas. being in the construction business all these years i always kept enough in savings to get us through the dry spells, and if things do not start to pick up soon i do not know what we are going to do. but the good thing about construction it will only take one house and we can catch up on everything again. and it looks like it is going to again here in the next few weeks a few of our builders are starting up again, so i think that we are going to be ok. but i am going to put a lot more away, and watch what i spend until the economy gets better. I think that it is going to get a whole lot worst before it gets better.

Yes real estate has taken a hit as people are thinking twice to make an investment and they have no money to set aside for long term returns. It is always better to start saving especially at these times and cut down on costs. I am sure things will start looking better for you soon. Try out as many options as you can and also look into other businesses as well if you have the time. 35 years in business, I am sure you are very wise and business savvy. Wish you good luck for the present and the future!

I have been poor my entire life, but the recession made me stop and evaluate what I really want out of life in the end. In the end I want a roof over my head that I own. I don't really care about the rise or the fall of value in my home because a home's true value is measured by what it means to me and my family. And my home means the world to me because I own it! I also have learned to actually cook. Haha. I have training as a commercial chef but the jobs in that field are really hard to get into. I guess it tends to be an easier job. But, I could never figure out how to cook at home on a regular stove and in a regular oven! Haha. I was a total microwave junkie before. And, now I have to re evaluate what I prepare for food because it has to be good for me, stick to me, and be very cheap! Haha. SO, that's what I've been working on lately. As far as job goes, I couldn't find a job easily and the one job I did get, I got so depressed I had to walk out of it. So, I'm considered disabled now because they say a normal person 'doesn't get depressed on the job and walk off' okay... I think I've see lots of people do that. But, it does give me time to relax and think of some ways to better myself and my home and make ourselves more recession proof. Haha. I've also had this time to be able to get online and look into my options as far as making money online.

You really give us a very realistic topic! Thank you so much! You know what, Recession really affect me so much though I am also a student. It is difficult for me to find a part-time job or the salary of job is becoming lower and lower! And also my roomate is in trouble to find a job, for he is on the way to graduate! How pathectic for a postgraduate to find no jobs!!! I am really feeling shamed! Wish God can help him to hunt a job! By the way you'd better find another job before you want to change it. Good luck to you!

I have had layoffs in my company too and it is sad. I hope your roomate gets a job and Good luck to you as well to cope up with tough times.

By God's grace, the recession doesn't seem to penetrate that much in our financial standings. I am working in a call center here in Cebu Philippines and as what kisseme has told us, BPO and call centers are not really that strongly affected by the recession, specifically, job cuts. But just a precautionary measure for me, i actually took advantage of the internet to make sure that are also residual income that will at least help us in our money matters. right now, i'm working 2 jobs one is in the call center, and the other one is a homebased job and a few online money making.

the recession has hit making me lose the job about a year ago. Now, I arrange with odd jobs and doing one thousand economies, I have not had to completly change my lifestyle, as had previously addressed the sacrifice and then in a certain way I was already loosened the restrictions. Unfortunately, the situation is not thriving and is not a resolution soon, I live in Italy and are about two years that the situation is very serious. Expected at least another two years of huge national sacrifices.

The placement in my college has come down from 80% to 20% and the package has also came down miserably . The Satyam mishap has done a lot of damage in the IT section . Hope the period of recession ends pretty soon and the bears be replaced by the bulls .

Recession is affecting everywhere, I am an Indian and my friends here are looking for change in the job and they are having a hard time. Once i went to an interview with one of my friend for his final round and the boss came up and told him that he can take the job if he was satisfied with the package that they are offering. Its normal here to negotiate about the salary and the package was also smaller tha expected so when he tried to talk about it the boss cut it short saying that its because of recession so, if you don't want the package leave it. It was kind of rude to him but this is how the market is at the moment.

I know the salary packages are too low and they negotiate crudely sometimes. People are more stressed with heavier work load and lesser salary and hiked prices of equipments. Its all a mad house right now.

I am an engineering student, into my final year now. I would start working in about 4 months time from now and thankfully recession did not affect the campus placements in our college. I got selected by Infosys Technologies Ltd. and there is no change in the salary they offered me. I know it has affected a lot of working people in the entire world but I am not among them. It has not affected any working member in my family either. Thank God!

because of the recession the business i was working for closed. i am now out of work and because of my limited work history finding something else is not easy. mainly because there is so much competition for the few jobs out there. i have always lived frugally now i am just being more careful. i would also like to get more education but i can't afford to.

There are few people who have not been in some way affected by the recession. Me personally, in many ways I have been affected financially. It is overall a terrible thing, and I feel very bad for the people who have been affected more then me. Money is tight for me as well, I find that the things I was used to buying right off the bat I now must wait longer, and not always get all the things I want.
