Have you ever given money over the internet?

I was just wondering if any of you have given money over the internet? I have for the Cancer Society after two friends of mine passed away with cancer. I was also looking at a site called www.modestneeds.org and thinking of giving to that. It was posted on one of my work at home sites that I visit and I read up on it a bit. Some of the people have been helped with one month of rent payment after being laid off or one basic need. The site checks out the actual need so a person cannot be lying AND the person has to be trying to make it on their own not accepting welfare. I thought about this more after that story came out the other day about the person standing on the corner and people giving money and he was buying cigarette and alcohol. Now I really would not be for giving money to that but someone who just needed a leg up is different. Besides that, I like that this is all verified and checked out and only a one time thing. I just wondered what you all thought and if you had done anything like this at all before? What drew me to this one is that I get to choose which person I help out.
