I understand why Prs. Obama likes to use a teleprompter. Just go back to the days when news anchors held reefs of paper in their fingers as their eyes moved skillfully from paper to camera and you'll understand too.
Like most things, it isn't the technology that's the problem, but the application. Teleprompters have been around for a long time now, and have been a great asset to public speakers everywhere.
The problem is when technology goes from convenience to crutch. Obama has been lauded as a great speaker, but if he can't even introduce a cabinet choice without one, how good a speaker can he really be?
We have examples of his true speaking abilities. The fact is, when he is left to speak for himself, he's a bumbling oaf. This being true, I understand even more why he insists on having his crutch in front of him pretty much 24/7. Will he drag the contraption with him in talks with leaders of Hamas, N. Korea, The Taliban, Syria and Iran?
Most people who use a teleprompter do so to make sure they don't say anything they didn't mean to say. I think Prs. Obama's handlers make sure he uses one so he doesn't accidentally say what he really means.

Have you noticed when he has a press conference that they have the reporters preselected. Their names must be on his teleprompter too, because he will look straight ahead, read the name then search the room looking for the reporter to stand up, and ask his question. Blessings Marilyn

I know, pathetic isn't it! I understand wanting to use them, and they are great technology, but he seems to need it for the most mundane of statements. How is he going to sit in a negotiation with someone agressive if he can't even announce a cabinet position without one?
