Can you help me buying a new digital camera..?

I already possess a Sony cybershot w50 which I've gifted to my neice. Now, I need to buy a new one, preferrably a sony, nikon or a cannon but between so many models available, am not able to decide. I need atleast 8.1+ MP camera. Please help me selecting a decent point and shoot version, budget is between 250 and 350 USD (15 to 22 thousand indian rupees). Thanks
