Recently a friend of many years asked me to buy girl scout cookies from her granddaughter. I can't eat all that sugar so decided I would buy a few boxes and give to our kids. It was explained to me that her son was returning to Afghanistan and if I couldn't eat the cookies she would offer to send them to the troops. I jumped at the offer and so was proud to be a part of this donation to the men and women serving our country. To date, 33 cases of cookies will be sent to the troops the end of this month. Can't explain the warm feeling in my heart. Have you ever done anything of this nature for our servicemen and felt so good about the results?

Yes....between my sisters, my friend in Wisconsin and myself we sent 450 hand stamped cards to be put in the commissary at the main base in Afghanistan for the troops to use! When I got the thank you's I cried. I just happened that the gal that ran the commissary was from Minnesota....she is home now. I also adopted a communications team of 8 in Iraq a couple of years ago...they were so thankful for everything they got! I made them matching stockings filled with goodies for Christmas...

I was thinking of you as this offer to help was made available. Knew you sent hand stamped cards to the troops and had done other things as well. You are so kind to take the time to make the guys/gals feel appreciated especially during the holidays. You know the warm feeling from doing something of this nature. Hard to explain it but it feels good. Thanks for responding.

I used to sponsor a kid to help her to go to school and she also wrote me postal mails telling me how happy she was when ever she receives her allowance and gifts from me. It really feels good to help :)

Yeah, I know the wonderful warm and fuzzy feeling . . . my kids and I bought four tickets to a baseball game. It provided a military family with tickets to the game and food. It was "welcome home troops" night at the stadium.

Someone was supposed to give me the address and number of her unit so I could sent something at Christmas to her Unit. I was going to send all kinds of stuff. But she never gave it to me and it was just as well. I had no money until the day before Christmas anyway. Still, I see her in passing sometimes and I wish I had. Now she's pregnant and she won't be over there any more. Someone else was supposed to give me an address and it never happened, so I guess until I actually have money, I'm not supposed to send anything just yet.
Right now I'm going broke with this darn cat Creamie (Creamsickle) and he isn't any healthier than he was before. As a matter of fact, he's getting sicker. Someone told me the vet that I brought him to doesn't know how to treat pink eye. They said he has to have not just drops in the eyes, but some kind of meds because it goes all through them. I looked at his mouth and his mouth looks just like his eyes. No wonder he isn't chewing and ends up throwing up food that looks just like it went down. It's all through him, so I've been trying to get to a vet to get a systemic (oral meds, shot, or something that will go through his system and clear out the mess he's become). So almost $300 later, this cat isn't any better, actually, he's sicker than he was.

Hi carolbee,
That was brilliant to do that, we don't seem to do things like that in the UK here but it would be nice to do something like that.

That is really awesome. I have not done anything for the troops, but would love to. It seems that every time I get up the desire, something comes up financially and I can't do it for one reason or another. However, I thank you for working to do your share and for giving such a great gift for those serving!

Actually my friend's daughter is the one who thought of the idea. Her brother was leaving again for Afghanistan and wanted to do something nice. So many people won't eat sweets so this was her way of showing her appreciation and giving to the guys/gals protecting us plus selling Girl Scout cookies. I thought it was a fantastic idea and was so proud to be a part of it. Thanks for responding.
